You still got Unreal Tournament 3, quite a PC game even on consoles :)
I think I prefer it like it is now, good games with decent graphics and no problems (errors, updates) for consoles, and good graphics but more potential problems on PC.
Most PC-exclusive games these days even got crappier graphics then the consoles games (SC2, WoW, Sims, Minecraft, etc) just because people no longer want to spend hundreds of dollars each year to be able to play games. I prefer modern days, my Gaming PC lasts years with maximum graphics in all games, instead of maybe a year, back in the days :P

If you want the fancy graphics and an "advantage" due to a good mouse/keybord, go for PC.
IF you want to play without hassle and on equal terms for everyone, go for consoles. :)

the Esport(s) is still way way way stronger than on consoles.
So if youre a professional or want to be one.. there is no way around the pc.
Its so amazing to play with your clan buddys on big LAN partys like the northcon for example (germanys biggest LAN).

you duplicated that post isnt it? :D

blizzard was always off graphic not even speak about WOWs engine is from 2002-2003 period developed on DX8 this was aimed to play everyone, sims (dunno i know only girls play it) minecraft.. what have you expected from independent game developer? one man studio (now its more) but hell do powerful engine and 3D assets cost lots of money not even speak about time need to invest.

about spending money they dont have to. Time when you have to buy new HW every 1-2 years are long gone. and it was never problematic if you wished have similar level of visuals as on consoles.. probably old HD3870 will still be OK if you wish play in 720p upscaled to full HD like consoles do. true is there are some issue about functionality if you pick bad HW or combination of various HW but for cheap gamer PC is almost all integrated do conflicts lowered to minimum, not even speak about upcoming Fusion where you will have some space for good gaming (not well, not great) some about issues i can say Xbox 360 i purchased Elite 120 long ago and i have played about 10-15 mins forza and than.. than its died.

I have basic keyboard and wireless mouse with lots of delay.. not even speak about one LCD for graphic which have horrible 20-25ms delay so im not one with advantage.

i dont like it now because i dont like style of games which are today, they have some elements in gameplay and gameplay mechanics which i as PC gamer dont like, its not about some **** sims, WoW or independent small game called minecraft or super meat boy or whatever, its because i missing Quake III, Supreme Commander, Planetscape tourment, System shocks, homeworld, Morrowind and so on...
some games still hold like Empire Total War series its real PC game have very good graphic.

of couse that hole after big developers which run for mass market will not be fillet with some hi stuff.. but with small independent companies which dont have money like killzone or halo developers.

and about that graphic im not sure much... all looks that graphic is nice because of art (colors, lots of colors = better graphic?) so we can say they have better art direction but this nice art direction have purpose to hide ugly technical graphic (props, textures, shader complexity...).

Of course i dont say that PC is only right way, its about what individual people prefers. PC is for different type of person than Consoles, consoles are MASS MARKET solution and in this matter it will always be more profitable than PC gaming, but i like PC more because im person which likes freedom and choices, functionality, versatility... and consoles are entertainment mass market solution for every average Joe around.

for pc you need to care, you need to know but its price for Freedom and Choices which i personally gladly pay.
we can say that personally im someone who dont want just relax when playing games.. maybe think little bit and maybe learn little bit instead of holding just 2 buttons, one for "go forward" and second for "fire/open"...

I simply missing some more real PC games than just ports.

Rise of the Triad was the best FPS ever made. Really, everyone else should just stop trying.

XXX1, obviously, Quake Live multiplayer code is best for today. But game is maximum hardcoe as can be, I can't remember something like that, UT series is much easer than any Quake, but great too.

Another great game, BEST HORROR SHOOTAH EVAR:

HALO PC was great if it comes 1-2 year sooner on pc because in time when PC halo was released it was already too old not only by graphic but by all means (like level design (weak interiors, copy&paste design) and gameplay style to repetitive and many times you must go back over level and this make it painful ) this game cant stand a chance against PC games released in that time

but as i looking now, im somehow shocked how western (US) website reviews prise HALO PC (gamespot, IGN...)
in our country halo got 75-80 out of 100 score, such Chrome game got 84 of 100 but on gamespot aroud 75

I have so far played every game in this thread :)

Hexen one was better than Hexen 2. Same for "Heretic".

I'm also still playing Quake through Quakelive, started with the release of Quake 2 :)

For the E-sports thing that's not entirely true it's PC only - Halo and Street fighter are played on consoles :) (and racing games?)

Ah yes, the Descent series. (Memories of blowing up robots on Descent 2 and Descent 3 :D) Does anyone remember that one bug they had in Descent 2 where the last boss was unbeatable because the red flashing triangle on his ass was impossible to shoot? =P

You shot an Earth-shaker at a wall behind him and the homed in on that triangle. It normally took about 3. One of the guns was useless against him. I can't remember if it was the energy or gauss.

True hardcoe FPs was played with only keyboard, this "mouse" is way to casual :P
I remember the good old hardcoe Players, who didn't whine all the time but played games and got good at it without having to use better hardware, cheats or cry every time they loose, they didn't cry over consoles either, and new how to adapt. A rare thing these days...
If You want hardcoe FPS like it used to be, PC as primary platform, mods, private dedicated servers, vehicles, no camping and stuff I would look at Homefront. That game does remember the Pc players...

phhht.. dude.. I played Descent 1 on a 386DX. With the sound disabled and the screen reduced down to 2 inches, I could get a whopping 4 to 8 fps. ! Remember that D1 was really meant to be played on a 486. :) Voodoo Monster cards (a secondary graphics acceleration card at the time) was ALL the rage as was the Diamond Stealth (S3 compression) and the Creative AWE32. Yeah.. those were the days!

Also, some of the first internet games were played over ICQ, Kahn, and Kali before dedicated TCP/iP servers came into being.

Wow! That DOES bring back some memories lol. I can remember watching a friend of mine leaning over in his chair so hard as he barrel rolled through the tunnels that he fell on the floor! I absolutely loved that game, hope to see it on Wii or better yet, back on PC with today's 3D graphics. Played 1, 2, and 3, but fell out in Freespace and moved on to the Mechwarrior Series for the next 5 years (addicted lol), until MSN's Game Zone stopped providing servers. Loved customizing Mechs, looking forward to customizing Nanosuits. Image
