Hey, it's the price you pay for making yourself as powerful as an Ainur, which is happened when Sauron created the ring. With the ring he would have to power to enslave the mortal races and assault the other Maiar and conquer them. Sauron is the shizznat.
But Sauron isn't dead. Sauron has had his body destroyed twice now and still lives but now he has no power, poor guy
I highly doubt Sauron could have stood toe to toe with another Vala. In all likelihood, Tulkas would have put Sauron in a chokehold that he would never recover from. And Tulkas would be naked too.

But that was the whole point of the one ring, to make himself as powerful as an Ainur, his ambition to be all powerful finally reached. Also, I don't know about Tulkas' chokehold of no return, I mean Sauron got hit by a blast that tore a hole in the world and Sauron survived, that is some crazy awesome powers right there imo.

Indeed. Shall we recall the time when Sauron transformed himself into a werewolf to try to take on Huan?

I just realized that you could create Gandalf (Lord of the Rings) if you really wanted to. Being that there are now beards and dual-wielding. Have a longsword in one hand and a staff of light in the other. Am I right? But if I ever created him I would definitely make him a dark side Gandalf.

I just had another look of the trailer. I thought the character had a sword in his right hand, and his left hand he had a staff. Apon closer look in the pic from gamespot, it's not a staff he is holding but a wand.

Now instead of Gandalf, it's Harry Potter.

Then again, Huan is the coolest hound dog eva. Even his death made me cry. Yes, even a khornanite was brought to tears!

Um, If h was trying to rival the Ainur he kind of failed, the ring was his Achilles heel, by making himself more powerful he made himself easier to defeat, I doubt you'd see Isildur defeating him if he hadn't placed all his power into the ring

And then being defeated a second time by a 4ft obese person, his buddy, and a deranged..whatever who accidentally fell like a complete klutz.

Let's face it, for all his "power" he was out maneuvered by Gandalf and Friends.

Well yes, it was his weakness but he got cocky because they were mere mortals and then when he got it chopped off his hand he was like "Oh hell". His over confidence of his powers being as great as an Ainur cost him his power as well. There always has to be sacrifices to gaining the power to match an Ainur and his was put all his power into the One Ring. It just ended badly for him unfortunately.

I gotta agree to an exent. If you are gonna make a object of great power that makes you strong, make it a 40 foot tall statue of yourself and hide it in your palace along with 99 other normal 40 foot tall statues of yourself. See Bilbo find and carry THAT.

Lol. Would be a little hard to carry himself though wouldn't it

But no one can dispute that Sauron was incredibly powerful and a great tactician. He won every battle he sent his armies in because of his tactics and also he was an amazing fighter, so many powerful beings fell before him. He used his knowledge of magic forging from his previous master to create the One Ring, where he sunk all his power into it but it gave him power many times greater than he originally had. I would take the risk of the ring to gain that much power imo. In hindsight though, he probably shouldn't have toyed with him and he wouldn't have got his ring cut off.

True, but it also isn't gonna go anywhere.

What I mean by that is make it something that empowers you that you don't have to carry everywhere, then hide it well, and guard it well.

I know rings were kinda his thing, but you know, a battlefeild, lots of movement and oppotunities to lose stuff... I just can't see a ring as a good idea when you are a warlord who goes into wars and tear peoples heads off.

Ah yes, but the statue gives him the strength of a Ainur, and an Ainur could carry a mere statue no problem, wouldn't change the fact that Isildur could still get a lucky shot in,

But what I don't understand is why Elrond didn't just punch Isildur in the face and chuck the ring in himself

Eh, Glor-"killed a frickin' balrog"-findel (cruelly cut from the film version of LotR - if it was the same elf) is more my style. Or maybe Túrin (killed a frickin' dragon); badass, despite how horrifically unlucky he was. Or Bombadil and his merry Thu'um...

But Middle Earth nerdism aside, I agree that having the option to toss fireballs from a staff in one hand, and swing Glamdring a sword in the other, is really cool.

Yeah, those goes sit up there with Fingolfin in my book.

I actually have a good around here somewhere, if I can find it, that has a never completed version of the story of Beren and Luthien in verse.

And if you absolutly HAD to make a portable object, why not a Guantlet instead? The ring was unbreakable by conventional means, and Isildur only cut off his finger. Make a guantlet out off the stuff and It would have just bounced off. make it look like the rest of your amour and you're set for life.

Not I. I'm an unknown in the modding community. The only real mod I've ever made, a sword, I've never released anywhere.
