Garbled NPC Text Boxes

Post » Tue Mar 25, 2014 1:50 pm

I've come upon a unique problem recently within FNV. When I start the game everything is fine within the boundaries of the area I'm in, the problem comes from traveling outside those boundaries. Upon any kind of travel, fast or otherwise...everything,(for lack of a better term) goes nuts. Fast travel is especially bad. Upon reaching my destination, if I talk to anyone; their text boxes immediately go to a single garbled line, compiled of all the text options for that given NPC's responses/questions. The game doesn't freeze but I am unable to access the ESC key to save, in fact no keys work, but the game continues to run. The only way to close is by using CTRL,ALT+DEL, and closing the game down that way. Upon restart, everything is fine; and I'm back to the area I started from my last save. Until I try to go anywhere again. I have never run into this type of problem before. Nothing new ( except NVSE update) has been added to the game, nor has anything been removed. I thought it might be a bad save ( I don't use quicksave), but even after going back to prior saves it keeps happening. Move outside that saves original boundaries, and garbled text happens or I'll get the red boxes with exclamation points ( no bad mesh or texture files missing, have checked). If anyone out there has run into this problem before, or even heard of it; any help would be appreciated. As, I don't know what else to check. Archive invalidation is running fine per FOMM and Wrye. Again, no missing mesh or texture files they match perfectly with my compiled list of all meshes and textures used. FNVedit checks out fine as well.

Does this happen on a new game? Are you using NMM too? You should enable archive invalidated on one manager rather than all of them. If you use FOMM most often then do it there.

Might try toggling archive invalidated and see if that helps. Using any UI mods? Update NVSE? Have you tried rolling back?

Jasper, Haven't tried a "New Game" as of yet. Can't use NMM at all on my system, found that out trying to use it on Skyrim. Archive invalidated is only active on FOMM. Have toggled FOMM archive button more than once, off /on/off/on, still no difference. Again Wrye shows all dates correctly (e.g.1/1/2008). I do use uHUD. updated NVSE, currently using 3b2. If you mean have I tried going back to differing saves, yes I have; but keep ending up with the same issue. After the save loads, everything around me is a ok. That is, until I travel. Once I leave the initial area of the save, all bets are off upon encountering anyone (trying to talk with them), all their text in the text box goes to one line; exclamation marks/red boxes start showing up, and nothing I do will work. no keys nothing. I end up having to CTRL,ALT+DEL to close the game.

I thought that maybe is started having issues with meshes and textures, somehow missing from my game. That's not the case. I keep a compiled list of all meshes and textures used in my games; the listing for FNV matches correctly with my compiled list. Haven't removed any mods from the game, since applying them. Just apply the updates to them, which are few and far between anymore. I haven't done that in over a year though for any mod. NVSE was the last thing updated, and uHUD. Before you ask, turned uHUD off and still had the problem mentioned above.

Trying not to start a new game, if at all possible. I've run Oblivion, FO3 and Skyrim all to 1600 hours of play on one game......wanting to see if I can do it on FNV. So far, not so good.

Do you still have the old NVSE. It could be an issue with a mod dependent on NVSE but might not be configured to work with the updated one or the Beta.

I have not used the new betas.

I meant have you tried rolling back the nvse to what you used before? Not that you have to start a new game over. I was just curious if the problem is there too.

Forgot to mention that I had tried rolling back the NVSE ( to both 2b12 and 2b9).....sorry about that guys. It didn't make any difference. Still had the same issues.

EDIT: 2b12 was what I had been using prior to current 3b2.
