No Gas on April 15th

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 4:40 am

So I got invited to Facebook group saying not to buy gas on the 15th of April to basically "stick it to the gas companies". Did anyone join this, or am I not alone in seeing the futility of this "glorious stand"?

I've already been drawn into a conversation with unknown people :(

It's full of [censored] that does nothing. Plus, everyone will fill up on the 14th or check to see if they have enough gas for 1 day.

It's nothing but crap, and I buy more gas than I should, for all vehicles and containers just to spite 'feel good' groups like this that contribute nothing at all, and end up just pissing me off.

Whaa? This is ridiculous. Until the envirementalists make "alternative" energy cheaper and more effective than gas, I will buy gas.

Hell, on the 14th, I will pay for someone to tank up their SUV.

Won't do anything. I could see why though. It's nearing $4.00 a gallon here...

It's fairly high here as well. I just can't see it doing anything. Like stated above, people will just buy gas other days. Unless people formed together to do this once a week or something until prices come down, nothing will change IMO and realistically, people just won't be able to do it every week I think.

Probably will just be another day. I really only fill up on Sundays, so if that day falls on a Sunday, then oh well.

And anyone complaining about nearing $4, come to SoCal where it IS $4+

And before any Europeans come in and say we have it cheap, keep in mind that we had it better, so to us, from our perspective, this is insane. We rely on personal cars more so we effectively pay more for gas overall rather then on a per-gallon basis.

Unless people aren't going to actually use their car on that day it won't make a difference. If you still drive the next time you full up your tank you will pay for it. Even if everyone did it it wouldn't matter.

I hate people who believe 'silent protests' and 'not gonna buy their product for one whole day' will change the world. Anyone who thinks their passive aggressive protests against a corporation are pretty vein, thinking it will be THEIR personal actions that automatically make a change in heart.

Like the bus boycotts back in the day. They require continued participation over an extended period of time. We in the US rely too heavily on our cars to afford a prolonged boycott.

Like walking to the Starbucks across the street to lounge around on a laptop instead of driving?

Not to bring politics into it, and please no one start on it, but didn't FB propel the revolts in Egypt? Isn't that why the government cut internet to the country, to slow down the support being gained through it? I really don't know and don't anyone start on the situation itself :verymad:

I believe one persons arguement was along the lines of:

"It's to show the companies that people can band together to oppose them. If they see this they will become afraid and if we can accomplish this, imagine what else we could do."

Can we, like, go to Starbucks while we silently protest and stuff on Facebook? We'll, like, totally be sticking it to the man.

Yeah, but large scale protests on the streets that last for weeks is not the same as a bunch of people not buying gas on April 15th, which most likely results in those people buying gas on the 13th, 14th or 16th anyway. :P

Won't make any change.
it is also naive to think that only gas and oil companies should be blamed for...well whatever they are being blamed for.
Government elitists are involved and don't care what you have to say. Welcome to the new world order.

Won't it be fun if gas was cheaper on the 15th out of all the other days...

my reply would be, "until you buy an electric car, your the gas companies pet for life"
