No, Challenges would be a whole new mode with scriped sections I believe

Yeah. Challenges are not like achievements - they are their own sort of gamemode. Each Challenge has 3 levels (easy, medium, hard) and completing each level will open up the next one. Your progress for how well you complete them will be tracked on friends-only leaderboards.

2 examples of of Challenges are "MEDIC!" and "Parkour This."

in "MEDIC!" you play as a medic on a team, where your only job is to keep the other team-members alive, while they complete core objectives.
in "Parkour This," you race around check points as a light body type.

you will perform each one 3 times, every time harder than the last.

I'm not sure how I feel about this concept of unlocking weapons and attachments through levels/challenges. On the one hand you only need to complete them once to unlock the item in question and then they will be available for all of your characters but on another it does provide a certain advantage to the player that has unlocked the more correct weapon for a situation.

Personally I prefer to unlock what I want in any order as my playing style will differ greatly from another player. So although someone may value increased movement or increased accuracy while firing from the hip those abilities are less than useful for me. Sure I can adapt to use them but then it favors a specific playing style over another, especially in the lower levels. Let's hope you get to choose how you unlock items and it is not forced upon you.

Appearently weapons would be through leveling, while attachments and clothes would be from challenges

So the challenge mode is like the training mode from AC Brotherhood?

Nothing is stopping you or anyone else, to unlock the same weapons.

Then unlock what you want, when you want, by completing the appropriate challenges.

You appear to be wrong. - in the GamingBolt vid, Stern says you unlock weapons and attachments in Challenges. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pd_RO9aj2y0

It has been known for awhile, that clothing is obtained simply by leveling and playing the game.

I guess it all depends on how these challenges are unlocked. If they are based on your level or sequenced then yes, there is something preventing me from unlocking the same weapon. My previous point stands that I can only hope you get to unlock any weapon or attachment in any order you want. Hopefully we get further details from GDC.

Sounds like it; you'd think though that you'd be able to do challenges during the game.

Yea but then you might be more focused on that rather than the main objectives of whatever map your on. I think its perfect that its off on its own.

Afaik, these challanges take place in a normal game (with and against bots; coop is possible in the first tier), but you're supposed to only go after your objective.

AFAIK, there is nothing stopping you from doing any challenge at any time, since Challenges are essentially training missions, to set you up for playing the game. "Challenges" appears on the menu, a separate choice from playing the normal game, so you can play them whenever you want.

scenarios similar to the challenges could occur in the normal game, (like playing medic, completing objectives, etc.) but the actual challenges themselves are a separate menu choice.

Yup. It's looking like GDC 2011 Brink info has jumped the shark. We'll see.

I know you select them seperately, but don't they just launch a normal game (with and against bots) in which you have to complete the challenge?

Some of the challenges might play like regular matches. The Medic! challenge sounds like it will be that way. But some of them will not, like the one where you have to race around map hitting checkpoints.

In the words of Richard Ham:

“Our challenges are entire scripted levels, which you can play solo or co-op. An example of one is a level we call “MEDIC!”, where you play as a medic on a team, where your only job is to keep the other team-members alive, while they complete core objectives. The trick to doing well in this challenge is being smart about who you revive, and when you revive them. If you win, you’ll unlock something cool, as well as a tougher difficulty level. And if you beat that difficulty level, you’ll unlock more cool stuff and difficulty levels.

And once you’ve truly mastered all the challenges (which are fun mini-games in their own right), you’ll have unlocked tons of great stuff, and you’ll have learned a lot of the skills you need to do well online.”

They sound more like they are specifically designed rather than just a normal match with achievements tied to them. Sure, many of them will play out team vs team, like a normal match, but it sounds like there are other parameters as well

Challenges would probably follow the lines of something like this:

Tier 1
  • Acquire one hundred kills for YeoTek/C-U-Gone/D-Flex RDS
  • Acquire thirty kills with this gun from the back for silencers
  • Acquire accuracy of 50% or more in one match with this gun for grips

Tier 2
  • Acquire five hundred kills for COGA/Snoop-R/Greeneye Scope
  • Acquire a streak of eight kills with this gun without dying for gun sling
  • Acquire accuracy of 70% or more in one match with this gun for four-vent/six-vent muzzle break

Tier 3
  • Acquire two thousand kills in total with this gun for bonus camouflage
  • Acquire a streak of fifteen kills with this gun without dying for bonus camouflage
  • Acquire accuracy of 90% or more in one match with this gun for bonus camouflage

Alternatively, the rewards for Tier 3 challenges could just be the pride and feeling of accomplishment you'd get for actually beating some of the hardest challenges in the game.

This is not how they work. Challenges are not just some stupid chores you have to do to get a treat at the end. They are designed to train the player how to play the game, whether it be playing a Medic, completing objectives or using SMART.
Just getting x number of kills or x% accuracy teaches nothing about Brink.

Yeah, I learned that after your post. Can't believe I forgot that. And you're right: I'd prefer to do missions that teach me how to work with my teammates better/improve my parkour skills instead of just shooting people.

Gizmo agrees (he also speaks about himself in the third person) could be cool with some friends. Hope there are some specific coop challenges.

Well, "Medic!" is a good example of this. Don't know how many variations you could make out of teamwork-oriented missions, though.
