Gauging Interest for new RP

Post » Wed Nov 10, 2010 7:52 pm

I do not, sadly, remember you, so you must have been drudging through the forum archives of old RPs when you found my stuff. I warn all now, I am likely to be rusty. Oh, and Aula, I will be keeping the same OP as before.

Yeah, when you were still on the forums back then I was just starting, I was never in any big RP's that you were in, in accordance to me being a beginning writer. I seen some RP's and was interested, but I felt I wasn't experienced to roll with the big dogs. haha but here I am, now a modest and slightly experienced Rp goer with some great Rp'ers and others like myself, along with some new people.

Can it be? Another chance in Aula's RP? Count me most definitely in.

I'd dropped off the forums for a while, but this seems like a great place to get back involved. Not sure what happened to this RP the first time, but I would certainly love another chance to travel with Karst and the gang. Probably won't be using such a loner character this time, though I might stick with someone wizardly. Perhaps a priest...

Anyway, I would love to join the RP, if you'd have me Aula. I have a few weeks until my AP History test, so I'll be posting sparingly 'till then, but after that I'm all in. Shall we be starting out in the same fashion this time? I thought it might be a better idea to start out closer to the door, so we won't have the same "Are we going now?" scenario that got the last RP stuck. Perhaps a tavern in Bravil this time? Just offerring my opinion.

I'm currently working on a Character Sheet but also have a 10 page BS research paper due about the cultural change in America during Vietnam. I'm not even a history major...

I want to make an interesting character, I'm thinking about making him a very racial-proud Redguard "It's YOKUDAN!" but want to brush up on my lore and writing skills first. I'll have my CS sheet to Aulakauss in a couple of days.

Just posting to say I haven't bailed.

I just recently messaged Aula with one of my own ideas on such a matter, starting on the ship on the way to the island, and no one having met before then so we can still do character introduction interactions.

Alright Sryner, understandable. Though that should be pretty easy, their was a lot of cultural change during that time period and if your just good at BSing and ranting your way through essays, I'm confident you could have that research paper done in no time. Thanks for letting us know though, glad to see your still up for this.

Welcome Dark! I honestly can not remember ever seeing you, to be expected since I hardly ever brave the TES side of thing, but since people are ecstatic to see you, I can not wait until you join. And I know how you feel, I just had my finals...

I see he mentioned something about getting stuck in the last one, though I'm not sure what happened, his logic is agreeable.

So we have: Me, Mony, Venix, Alua, Jonas, FC4, Shadow, Thief, Adam, Scale, and two more in the wings.

12 is a good number, no?

Cut that number in half and that is the most likely number of continually active members we will have for the duration of the RP. Who those six are is unknowable, but that's generally how it works around here. Big opening crowd funnels into a few die-hards. The opening sequences of an RP are a bit like a weed-out course in college in that respect.

However, it would be extremely delightful if this RP were to prove me wrong.

Sadly this is very true. RP's almost never some out with all of the members who joined. But nevertheless, I agree it would be great if this RP was different.

Hello Jonas, it's good to see you again :) I'm just finally glad to be RPing again, it seems like it's been forever.

I just recently messaged Aula with one of my own ideas on such a matter, starting on the ship on the way to the island, and no one having met before then so we can still do character introduction interactions.

Also good, also good. I always enjoy the sudden introductions as well, though on the ship always feels cliche. Makes me wonder why no one said hello at the dock, or how everyone managed to get there at nearly the same time. But either way is fine for me, just so long as we don't end up stalled out again :)

And it's good to see you again too, FC4 ;)

Thank you, I have been absent for some time, but I was fairly active before winter. It's always good to see new faces around here; I hope I am not too late in welcoming you to our little corner of the internet :foodndrink:

I actually just sent the CS to Aulakauss. I'll enjoy exploiting how the Isles will make him insane.

Room for another?

Name: Clengo
Nickname(s):
Gender: male
Race: Bosmer
Age: Exact age unknown. Roughly 40.
Birth date: Exact date unknown. Imperial Census lists his birth (an estimate) as 3E 398 on the 1st of Rain’s Hand.
Birthplace: A remote ‘village’ in central Valenwood.

Class:Scout, Hunter, Warrior
Class Focus:Very much a marksman, he can fair well with slings, bows and arrows, javelins, spears, harpoons, and blowguns. He can also wield blades, though with considerably less skill.
Major Skills: Marksman, Athletics, Sneak, Unarmored, Spear
Minor Skills: Speechcraft, Acrobatics, Short Blade, Mysticism, Alteration
Birthsign:
The Mage

Eyes:Solid Black.
Hair:A messy tangle of auburn. He is often observed pulling small bugs from it.
Skin/Fur Color:Skin has a lightly tanned, weathered look.
Height: 4’5’’
Weight: 65 lbs
Build: Very thin and sinewy, perhaps even slightly emancipated.

Physical Description:

Tattoo/Scars/Piercings: Some ritualized scarring around the face, neck, back, and chest; forming nice little geometric patterns! His ears are pierced, but he currently wears no jewelry.

Clothing and Armor: Naked except for a pair of ragged, woolen pants that come down to his knees. Slung around his shoulder is a leather strap which holds a leather satchel at his left hip. Around his neck is a small leather pouch.

Inventory: Strips of jerky, a collection of dead insects and spiders, a few well-polished Septims, a whittle stone, some sinew rope, a flute, a few round stones, some sharpened bone and flint implements, darts, a blowgun, some feathers, a broken bottle, some bent silverware and a small woolen piece, about 6 inches square.

Weapons: A blowgun w/darts, an ivory knife (mainly for ritual purposes)decorated with shells and fish scales.

Magic: A few useful spells, including a detect life, a touch fire spell, dispel on oneself and upon others, a leaping and slow fall spell, and a light spell. These spells were a part of his ritual education in Valenwood, and although he is quite skilled with them, he is by no means a mage, and would be flabbergasted by magical theory and possibly even frightened by alarming, unfamiliar spells.

History:

Born to a isolated community in Valenwood during the chaotic Jagar Tharn’s reign, his birth (and that of his generation) went unrecorded until a few years following, when census’ were conducted across the Empire following the return of Septim rule. As such, his very early life remains a mystery, but by the time of the census in 3E 401, he was recorded as living with a small community north of Elden Root and being trained (along with other youths) in the traditional ways of his people. There he may have well remained, until, following the Oblivion crisis, he was chosen by his father to become a captive of the Empire in a sign of good faith between the tribe and the Imperials.

Feeling spurned, he was brought to the Imperial City to be looked after a kind Bosmeri couple who were to provide for his housing and education, but Clengo resisted most attempts. He was restless in school, and commonly sought to run away (once he tried joining a traveling merchant, who, after playing along, returned him to his guardians. He was also put on record by the Imperials as trying to swim Lake Rumare, pulled out by fishermen just as slaughterfish had begun nibbling on his toes).

It was only recently when he overheard some strangers speaking of a meeting upon the Bloated Float that was looking for “for anyone strong of body, mind or adventurous spirit to see her about an expedition into the unknown.” Seeing himself as a proud Bosmeri warrior and eager to escape the humiliation of life in the Capital where he was forced to wear itchy clothes and sit in hot rooms for endless hours, he ducked out of school and headed towards the Waterfront District, last seen by an Imperial Guard, who later described his demeanor as “perky” to his distraught Bosmeri guardians.

EDIT: Well, erm, lets just leave it a mystery for now as how he gets to Bravil. Stowaway probably. But who knows?

Personality:

Clengo is a bit of a mystery to outsiders. He is small and boyish, with a care-free attitude that is quite typical among those of his race. Eager and clever and charming, he was the adored object of many a dinner party during his tenure at the Imperial City, with enough“He’s-just-so-adorable” and “let-me-pinch-his-cute-little-cheek” to make a Sload retch with disgust.

He has a vicious streak though, for underneath this exterior which the city-dwellers found so charming is the hard truth. He’s not some talking piece and exotica display for your upper-class social events. He’s a rebellious and haughty young man, trained to be a proud warrior and schooled in all of the tenants of conservative Bosmeri religion since the day he was born. Even in the Imperial City, where makeup hid his scaring and clothes civilized his appearance, it was difficult to suppress the rumors that he had killed and eaten Ms. Vitellia’s cat…

Other Traits and Oddities:
-He cannot read, nor does he have much knowledge about the world beyond Valenwood. Regardless, he is quite clever.
-He follows the Green Pact and worships Y’ffre.
-No one knows just what he smokes. But he really enjoys it!

Misc Skills [non-combat]:
He can mimic sounds and throw his voice with particular skill.
He is well versed in tracking and trapping, with a good knowledge of poisons and other alchemical materials, although his ability is hindered by his refusal to use plants as ingredients.
He knows how to craft a manner of items, often making use of his whittling and carving skills.
He can play the flute.
In the Imperial City, he has shown himself to excel at board games.

EDIT'd. Mostly to fill in the skills slot...

This sounds quite fun, and rather different from the typical serious RP's floating around. I'll pitch my hat in to join this if that's alright with the game master. :)

Okay, Its not my part to say this, its up to Aula how many we have participating, but we REALLY don't want to get overbooked. I've been in a few RP's where there were a bunch of people, and it took FOREVER to get it going. The intro's alone will be about 2 pages long, depending on post-size of course.

Sadly I would have to agree obviously it's up to Aula, it's nice that so many people are intrested but ita too many people to keep track of and it takes ages for things to move on either that or people get left behind because some can post way more often. Just my thoughts anyway

Yeah. I wasn't sure what to put there yet...

Mostly just Oblivion/Morrowind skills the character has, or even non-game skills he has. Look at others here for examples.

As to what you all are saying, I will have to agree. 20+ participants can make for an enormously long, yet incredibly rich character-interactive, opening to an RP. It has its positives and negatives, of course, as it means more remaining active members (possibly) when the funnel is passed. However, as noted, it can also get so cumbersome as to end an RP before it even begins.

While up to Aula, I humbly put forth my opinion that 15 ought to be a max.

P.S. I'm getting a nostalgic giddy feeling waiting for this Rp to start, a feeling I usually got back when I was newer... I can barely accomplish anything else for fear of it starting without me... Feels very nostalgic.

I like starting an RP as well; it is all very open, and you don't really know what is going to happen before it does. Second, don't worry about me dropping out; I haven't yet in any of the RPs I've participated in, nor do I plan to.

I also thought about Juhanor's situation for quite some time, and I have an eventual plan for him; the results won't be good, but it won't occur until later in this (or another) RP.

You took the words from right out of my thoughts and put them in this post. Good too have you with us FC4

Speaking of nostalgia, do you remember being in an RP with me where the Imperial City was torn open by magic and all the players in the RP were fortune-seekers and whatnot, who wanted to all go in and get artifacts and such? I believe you played as a sort of crazy Dunmer, but I could be mistaking you for someone else.

Working on an OP now. Think I'm going to go with the Bravil meeting idea, actually, so adjust any mentions in your CS to the Bloated Float accordingly. Should have new thread ready soon.
