RP General Discussion- IV

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 7:59 am

Well, as you are offering so enthusiastically, I'll send you a page of the compendium via pm after every one I've completed.
You can check it for any lore mistakes, confusion, boring bits or just lack of vital information. Which I'll go about correcting.
And don't worry, there won't be heaps of these pages. I've just got to make six rather large pages in which to offer up summaries in.

Those being: Ka Po'Tun, Tsae-Sci, Tang Mo, Kamal, General Information (continent's classes, birthsigns, pantheons, curses, current timeline etc.).

I'm interested in seeing what you come up with for the Kamal, since last time I checked they were the least well-described. I've heard people guess they have a Russian-esque culture, but Snow Demons who freeze every winter and invade the same nation every spring seem like they'd be a lot more alien then that to me.

Isn't it suppose to be a mini RP to just tie up loose ends or whatever the hell it is. Then you start a new one?

No that's a lie. I'm treating it as a full blown RP and i'm taking hostages too.

Well, if anyone wants to reboot Darkfall then I'm all for it, but at this point, I'm working at maximum capacity RP wise.

I really shouldnt be RPing this much. I plan on jumping back into greyblood in the future, and plan on making an RP based on a Timeline of my making.

I was just wondering, do you guys have difficulties with naming characters at all, or is that just me?

My naming process is usually:
-Have a vague idea of what I want them to be called.
-Check the UESP for lore-correct names.
-Pick one that sounds nothing like I envisioned.
-Get used to it and start to wonder why I ever wanted them to be named something else.

I'm horrible with names. I have to use a name generator for about 10 minutes before I find something acceptable.

I use UESP for character names on here. For my actual fiction, I use google translate and fiddle around with that for a while.

Not as such, I try to look at the culture my character is from then use the UESP list of characters from said race as inspiration.

Also, on the subject of names, there's an Athell in Skyrim. (Sort of, well not really but kinda.)

So there is someone called At Hell? I want to know his parents...

This fits the general discussion perfectly: I have a question:

What do people here think about an RP that is based on survival. Basically, your character will die sooner or later. However, it's not up to just writing if you survive, your characters would actually have stats and skills, gain levels etc etc etc. When you create a char-sheet, you spend the beginning points as you want and thus create the character you want. By balancing the skills and points, all character would start unique but equal. It'd be a much more limited RP in terms of how much power the writer on his own has, and would actually be a little like game instead of an RP. (there would be pre-set stats and skills and weapons you can choose from, and only a limited amounts of points you can spend; thus, no god characters could be created. When the RP moves along, you gain more points "level up" and can buy new gear, increasing your damage and defence directly).

So basically, I just want to know what you think about it. I personally think it'd fit much better into the Fallout universe. There's much more survival potential (=danger) in it.

Eh, I can't say I like the idea of an RP with stats, nor I am a fan of survival RPs. However, I could imagine some people would be into it.

The stats might limit players waaaaay too much, I know. That's why a very in-depth skill/stats system would be needed to be introduced, and the whole "RP" looked at in a different way than other RPs.

I out right the idea of stats and numbers while RPing. Hate does not even describe what I feel about that. RPing is supposed to be a fluid system. However, I think there is a way of limiting characters for an RP such as this. Sounds cool.

While I've done a few D&D games with just pen and paper (no figures and such) and thoroughly enjoyed it, I think that on a writing forum, flow would suffer the most as well as a fair amount of confusion and such. (Sorry if this rambled, I just woke up)

That's not impossible. It would probably involve Hircine...

Speaking of survival RPs...I was thinking of making a horror/survivor type RP based in the Reach during the time of Skyrim. The plot would revolve around a group of Winterhold College students + whoever else and they run into reachmen who aren't too thrilled to see them. It'll be part one of a longer series of plots set in Skyrim that would integrate some of the quests.

I think that's a pretty interesting idea. Only problem it would no doubt create is the player vs player environment, which isn't exactly practical. It's rare that people will willingly kill off their character. The only way I could see it working is if it were a grouped version, such as random people put in a group together and forced to fight/survive against NPC groups.

As Arathorn said, you'd definitely have problems of eliminating characters to get to a final 2.

Maybe... though it would be hard for a purely PVP environment to be completely enjoyable...
