And yet everytime I help some poor jokers I need to report to Mr Preston Preston to listen his rant and take his next order like Im his beach. Great roleplay Bethesda

Well its more a honorary title at first, its by helping folks that you prove that you deserve it.

Atleast you get to command everyone else pretty much.

"You! Walk across the Commonwealth to Somerville!"

"But-but, I live here with my family!"

"Too bad."

Didn't you know that any posterboy official is actually being managed by background people? ;)

The fact that your signature area is just an opinionated complaint with a link to your complaint thread makes me take anything you say less seriously

Every once in a while I have to go back to Sanctuary to help my settlers with ghouls or raiders. Every time they keep asking if I'm with the Minutemen. When the raiders are no more, my good settlers keep telling me they will join me. Sanctuary has joined the Minutemen like 6 times already.

Well yes thats a side effect, but my (and many others') dissapointment in dialoque depth is more importatnt imho.

Yes apparently Beth thinks being a toy of my government, boss...etc in rl is not enough so they have to put it in game also. Illuminati confirmed ;)

Wouldnt be much fun playing as the actual General would it, ordering preston and all the other grunts to go kill raiders/ghouls while you sit smoking a cigar

He specifically says that the General is the leader of the Minutemen, that he is not fit to lead, and that you are likely the only one capable of doing so.

That does not paint the picture of an "honorary title", nor does it suggest or imply that Preston is still going to be giving you, his leader, orders.

In my opinion there should be squads you can send to support other settlements. There's no reason why each settlement needs to die and become a wasteland because one minuteman (you) decided not to show up to a timed quest.

There are others who do absolutely nothing. I don't mind that preston is the quest giver, but its not really right to call you the leader more like baby sitter.

Preston is your secretary.

He relays the missions to you from down the chain of command and you explain how the situation was handled so he relays it back down the chain of command.

This is how it works in real-life militaries.

Well, not the part where you go out and kill everyone yourself. That parts new.

Sooooo..........

Has anyone stopped to think about what happened to all those OTHER "leaders" of the Minutemen over the past few years?

Preston is a survivor.

And "leading" the Minutemen, at least officially, is not a survival scenario.

Your job is to wander around the Wasteland doing good deeds while wearing a giant bullseye around your neck while Preston quietly runs the whole shebang from Sanctuary.

When you finally end up taking a dirt nap, Preston will just "promote" someone else to General.

That would be the case if not for the fact there's no Minutemen.

I mean, the organization is GONE.

Preston WAS a member but they're all DEAD.

He basically makes you General because, literally, there's no one else to vote on it. Everyone else is recruited, including ex-Minutemen, but it's all so Preston can feel good about working for it again.

It makes sense you do all the grunt work because everyone else is a raw recruit or a former deserter.

Its the leaders duty to perform mundane tasks that are beneath them.

What about the Minutemen you start encountering that are holding small non-settlement areas? I was a little surprised yesterday, when I stumbled into an ongoing fight between a legendary radscorpion and some poor dude who it thought was lunch. Anyway, after the battle, I was a bit taken aback to discover that the guy was a minuteman.

There ARE Minutemen out there, unfortunately, they haven't a clue as to who YOU are. You might as well be an itinerant janitor for all the good the title of "general" does you...

I've stumbled upon a few groups of fellow Minutemen who are trying to secure locations and they address me as General... Maybe you just stumbled upon a lone newbie who hasn't gotten the low down yet.
