Generic Host Process for Win32 Error

Post » Sun Nov 21, 2010 10:38 pm

Has anybody seen this error ? "Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close"

All I do on the computer is play games...nothing else. I download only mods and what ever steam sends my way.

It is not a virus, I have checked with my anti-virus software and have run a PC & Registry Cleaner.

I have queried Steam about this issue, but wanted to know if any other Fallout NV players have seen this problem.

I know this is not specifically a Fallout NV issue, but as I said, the only thing on my PC that has changed has been the loading of Fallout NV and Steam.

it could still be a virus. I had this same issue not long ago, and it was a series of viruses that my tools were not picking up. Try different anti-virus scanners, but that may not help.

Thanks, I have tried every AV, scanner, and registry checkers I could find that had trials, I even have a copy of AVG Free loaded. I did discover that it is malware or trojan that apparently was loaded on my machine when I was connected to Steam for an update. I play offline and only go online occasionally to check for updates. It loaded a dir called:

WER8e96.dire00

which contains two files:

svchost.exe.mdmp
appcompat.txt

at C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp.

I'm not aware of anything else that it loaded...but the following two items keep showing up in the temp directory even after I have deleted them :an empty directory called WPDNSE and a file called D1B5B4F1.tmp. I'm not sure of all this bug does...but it constantly gives the Generic Host error and interferes with my network connection finding its ip address. My computer is also slowing down.

So, it is not a Steam error as such, unless the update I received was not a legitimate update from Steam. Is this possible?

Have you tried repairing windows? Might work as it seems that windows has lost a file or two.

Spent all day yesterday working on it....
It could be a file problem but from what I found on the web, it is probably a piece of malware or trojan that has corrupted some files.
Took computer to the local computer doctor. Don't have the computer back yet.
