German Cover Story

Yes the studio is in rockville, maryland NOT washington.

Yeah, I know, but Rockville is like 20 minutes out of DC, close enough. It's not a big deal, really. A lot of people in Montgomery County just say they are from DC.

The german mag Computer Bild has a 1 page preview of the TH interview:

My german is a little rusty, but Todd describes some kind of auto-targeting aid for combat, leveling through specialisation and scaled enemies...

TO THE BUNKERS! TO THE BUNKERS!

Anyways, as long as it's toggleable, I don't care. Also, I'm a PC guy.

The interview, or the magazine?

Anyway, I highly doubt auto-targeting will be a feature on the PC version, fortunately.

In the fist question Todd mentions that hitting an opponent will be easier because of a new "Target-Magnetism" that is active. Basically melee attacks will snap to the opponent that's closest to your crosshair. A feature that's very welcome for console players.
Second question mentions what we already know - the higher the skill the more it contributes to your leveling.
Thirs question: "It's theoretically possible to reach 100 in all skills. However, a players true potential will be only unlocked through the use of Perks. A character will be much better if you choose perks within fewer skills and within the same perk branches."
Fourth question is about level-scaling: first part of the answer is what we already know - dungeons will lock to your level once you visit them. Second part is new info: it turns out that different opponent types will be assigned to different difficulty ranges. Some monsters's range will be very wide and thus you will see many subtypes of them. Other opponents, such as bandits, will have only a very narrow difficulty span, beyond which they can neither be weaker nor stronger (i.e. for instance, if the span is 8-18 then they'll be level 8 for a starting character, but they will never scale higher than 18 once your character is lvl 20 and beyond)... Woohoo! :celebration:

"Target-magnetism" sounds like something so you avoid hitting friendlies.

So we can go to all dungeons at level one and lock them in at that level?

I seriously doubt some if this info...
But anyway, my google-translate gave me:

- Lightweight target-magnetism ------------> WHAT!?? Oh please don't make it like Halo. Since when was it hard to hit the enemy in Oblivion that you needed aimbot?

I agree that it may be difficult on consoles to hit and aim. But definitely not on PC!!!

That's a double-edged knife - you'd also lock all of the loot! And remember that the best gear can't be bought at shops :P

The article doesn't mention anything about what platform was implied. I'm assuming it will be an optional feature on the PC, just like "Allways use best attack" was an optional feature in Morrowind.

It looks very Barbarian instead and I like a lot ... :) ....

Where do you get they never wore horned helms and such, yes they did, every1 from the romans to the goths to the franks and before and after that wore helms some of them got adorned with horns, feathers, horse hair, what have you, please dont make broad based statements borne out of ignorance, it makes you look silly not informed. Wasnt my intention to scare anyone, the level-scaling actually sounds smart, giving level ranges to different kinds of enemies depending on how common they are (or presumably how likely a bandit is to acquire daedric armour etc.)

Also - someone with better German could confirm? - it sounds like a dungeon locks to the skill level it sets (based on the player's level) even if you leave that dungeon and come back at a later time. This sounds in keeping with the Radiant Story mechanic we've been hearing about.

Auto-targeting could be implemented well, I never would have flagged it as a problem in Oblivion, but this is a new engine/physics etc.

What about the people who don't follow the game as closely as we do and don't know about the dungeon level lock? More importantly what about players who like to avoid quests and mainly explore? This is going to kill that by locking out good loot from explorers?

CBS: Are the fights in skyrim different to them in Oblivion?
TH: In oblivion it was sometimes difficult to hit the enemy, in skyrim it's easier for the player: A slight Target-Magnetism helps you striking the enemy. There are a lot of Finishing-Moves as well which, for sure, will be loved by the players.

CBS: How does the ranking work?
TH: That depends on the use of the different skills. If you mainly use the bow, the archary skill will be more important for the level up. Is your skill raising to 31 from 30 it will have more influence to the level-up than if you have a skill raised from 5 to 6.

CBS: Is it possible for the player to get all the skills up to maximum to become a mighty allrounder?
TH: It's theoretical possible to get all the skills to max (100). However the player will get a lot of might by choosing the perks. When he gets a level-up he has to choose a perk. In that way he can improve his favourite skills. A character will always be better if he chooses all the perks in a smaller amount of skills, s the he skills deep into the tree.

CBS: Will the monsters also get stronger after the player went better?
TH: The Strength of the monsters is similar to FO3: If a player enters a dungeon this will fit the players level. Nevertheless will there be more and less difficult dungeons. Unlike in Oblivion each section will stay at its dificulty when the player leaves it and comes back later. In Skyrim the different types of monsters have a difficulty range. Some standard enemys will appear very often so that they have a lot of different levels. However there will be bandits with a limited range of strength, they cannot get more or less strong than the limitation allows.

Hope you understand everything, english isn't my first language :D

btW, I REALLY hope the magnetism is something for the XBox and PS3 version, guess its something similar to the auto-aim you have in some shooters for the consols

I imagine that you will be able to switch off any form of targeting assistance, so Casuals can be happy and purists.. calm down for a moment and check the options when its out.

I actually don't mind the horned helmets at all.

However, your post is very funny, because you're the one with the uninformed opinion. Vikings did not wear horned helmets.
