German Cover Story #2

Post » Fri Jan 07, 2011 3:10 pm

Wouldn't really add anything to the opening post either. The spoiler is already known from previous coverage, and only the L3/R3 controls thing is actually new. I guessed that it would work like this, anyway, so... Nothing to see here, go along. ^_^

that can't be right, another magazine stated that the r3/l3 buttons were used to Shout

So happy to know that the graphics will get a big overhaul. Better graphics = more realism, which makes the game so much better for me.

If you can somehow get hold of a scanner of any other means of showing us those picture we'd be very grateful i'm sure :P.

See, that is why I complained about handing the report to this magazine. I was scratching my head at some parts, too, as their writers tend to be very vague. And the whole thing was a pretty fast read, finished it standing at the kiosk.

Damn! I'd love to see that!!!!
Grrrrr
At least it's really fun that we now know GI hadn't all the screenies :D :D :D
Describe it more!
Does the water look good?
What's the weather like?
See anything special on the pic? Anything that looks extra good (or even extra bad)?

Made a quick scetch of the screen :D

Hehe nice, thanks for the scetch :D
So it looks like overcast ^^
The water, does it look nice/real? Rather than Oblivion's blurry, messy, and flat soup :P

It looks definitely better than Oblivions, its similar to the one on GIs page 48 but a bit darker.
Think water will be something like the BFBC2 water ...

And it is overcast :D

I think it's like this:

You still use the anolog sticks to move and aim. But when you click on the left/right, you will attack with your left/right weapon.

Aye, and pressing both triggers simultaneously activates blocking, from what I remember reading elsewhere.

- All the environment (trees, gras, snow, wind) looks extremly detailed and handmade, not generated like in Oblivion, same with the dungeons.

Alright, thanks for the info! :P

In any case...

Is it just me... or do you also wonder why ALL screenshots exterior have had some kind of very cloudy, foggy or overcast weather?
Why isn't Bethesda showing off some amazing clear weather pictures during for instance... sunset?

Wasn't there some blue sky in the dragon screen?

We haven't seen so many screens yet, guess they are showing them which mostly fits the setting and snowy winter weather means overcast weather imo.
But hope we don't have to walk all the time under heavy clouds in skyrim, not good for the mood ^^

oh come on people, its pretty simple how this will work.

you hold down right or left trigger to select that arm, then move the corosponding anolog stick to swing in a dirrection.
release it trigger to regain movement

its not too complicated, really.

Which dragon screen? I don't remember any

Misty and heavily cloudy weather can be really atmospheric on occassions... but as you said, not all the time hehe. I'd really like to see some clear weather too. I wonder why Bethesda hasn't showed us any (that I remember).

If I were Bethesda, I'd show us at least one picture of a really nice sunset over a landscape or a city...
The concept art had that :P

- On the console you will be able to control each arm wih the anolog sticks (left and right) independantly on the Pc with left and right on the mouse.

Awesome. I guess this means you can go frenzy with dual weapons, clicking both mouse buttons like crazy and beating the enemy to submission!

EDIT: Or wait, I misundestood. You swing your weapons with your anolog stick... and with the mouse on PC? I can't wait to see how this turn out.
NEEDS GAMEPLAY VIDEO!! :D

So, like Daggerfall?

I don't know. I don't think we have enough info to say with certainty yet, but such a system would be rather awkward on a console controller (it's not exactly pleasant on a PC, either).

Meh
That looks pretty cloudy to me. Some heavy clouds, but also a few light clouds above.

I was meaning more of something as seen in the video at 0.07: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/01/26/the-art-of-skyrim.aspx
(The two middle pictures).

Another part of the (mostly really bad) article that wasn't mentioned:

In 1st Person you can only see your weapons and hands.

Looks like no feet in 1st Person :(

Only 8? With so many talents from the mod community who would work on a TES game for bread and water? Don't be so stingy Bethesda! :hubbahubba:

Can someone else confirm this as well?

If it's true. It's really disappointing.
It would be VERY sad if the "floating-camera in the air"-concept hasn't changed one bit over the 10 years of development.
Also, seeing as this isn't the hardest thing to do; you'd expect this even more.

Can you paste the quote? Sounds like something that could be easilly misinterpreted. For all we know, it could mean that there's no HUD in the way.

Btw is there anything mentioned about a ... "lightweigt target-magnetism"? Or anything like "lightweight aim-magnetism"???

Actually this is mentioned in the article. It says there will be "aimhelp"

They compared the First Person View with COD, stupid enough but also mention that you'll only see hand and weapon.

German quote:
"K?mpfe in The Elder Scrolls 5:Skyrim kann man auch wie in milit?rischen Actionspielen aus der Egoperspektive bestreiten.
Dann sieht man nur die H?nde und Waffen der Spielfigur"

Edit: Pete clarified the anolog stick thing: https://twitter.com/DCDeacon

This is great news. I hope this implies plenty of hand-placed treasure, greatly varied dungeon maps, etc.

Is a visible body in first-person really that popular a feature? I'd have thought it would be a bit awkward really... (I prefer third-person, so I don't object to, or have much of an opinion on the feature either way.)
