[STEAM] German Low Violence Version? Please don't...

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:43 pm

Hey, just checked in on the forums...

I just wanted to know if there will be another one of those "low violence version"s on steam for the german customers.

This game will (most likely) get an M-rating from the esrb. Therefore this game should not be sold to children.

I still don't get what the reasoning is behind all this crap.

If Fallout 4 will also get a version like that - is there another option for me to get the uncut version other than amazon?

And -what I really wanna know- is it possible to activate a Fo4 key (which I'd get from the game I bought on amazon) on Steam and get the normal/uncut version that way?

I like to collect my games on steam since this is my main go-to point for gaming. Also I have had really bad experiences with censored games.

I feel like if I paid the full price (in this case 59,99鈧? for a game, I should also get the entire content of it. That's just my opionion but I bet there's thousands of people who would agree with that.

Thanks for reading! I'd appreciate it if I could get some official information on that.

TKay

I think the Fallout 4 Collectors Edition has none of the violence restrictions.

There is a low violence for like 99% of all games, not just Bethesda.

Videogames are classified as children's toys in Germany and thus aren't allowed to be advlt.

EDIT:

Actually after looking it up it seems that's not the case, but that the advlt only games are so heavily stigmatised as in America that they won't sell.

How would they even make a low violence version? Like instead of blood and gore when you explode an enemy's head, candy pours out?

Nope they just cut out the blood and gore entirely. when you shoot someone they drop dead without having spilled a drop of blood.

I believe Gears of War 2 was banned in Germany?

But agreed, that is terrible indeed.

I think in Wolfenstein the new Order they only removed those symbols no German is ever allowed to see again from the game. But all the blood and gore, which was pretty extreme, was allowed to remain in there. A few years ago something like Far Cry came on the index for ragdoll behavior, believe it or not. Times, they are-a-changin'...

Blood in video games is illegal under German law, among other things. Last I heard anyways, been a while, might have changed little?

They might just have the same violence limiting feature as most other games that have Violence in them by sensoring/limiting it through an option in the games settings.

No it's not... Blood was never illegal. And Germany didn't censor games. The companies censor their games in Germany on their own to get a lower ranking.

But New Vegas was uncut in Germany. And Skyrim too.

Only for Fallout 3.

Not... really.

I remember a fourth wall breaking joke in Fallout 2 referencing these censors.

"When talking to Phyllis in the Vault City clinic (in Vault), when asking donating sperm, a male character can say to Phyllis, after donating, "Oh Well, I thought there weren't any children because this might be the European version of Fallout 2. Goodbye."

I laughed for a while.

I remember this. Despite how ridiculous it could get at times, Fallout 2 made some hilarious jokes and references.

There are two ways of "censorship" in Germany. One is "Indizierung" which means the product may not be advertised for and may not in any way be accessible to people under 18 (this is nothing like a mere ranking, BTW). This was done with games like Doom or Far Cry. The other one is "Beschlagnahmung", which means the product is removed from traffic completely. It's banned. Verboten. They did this with most Wolfenstein games because of their symbolic.
The first variant often leads to companies "censoring" themselves. Crytek put out Crysis without ragdoll behavior, because of their previous experiences with German authorities with Far Cry.

'Twas but a joke. Though, now I find myself wanting a "pinata party" mod.

There is no way Fallout would be banned  But it's still allowed to import them and to own them. They are just disallowed on the German marked.

And yes. As I said... the most companies did censor the games on their own to lower the ranking. Or to be sure the game wouldn't be indexed. As I said... The ultimate edition of New Vegas was uncensored in Germany.

Fallout 4 could easily get an age rating of 18 without censoring.

I'm in Germany, and I have both FO3 and NV in non restricted versions, i.e. pretty gorey. Might have something to do with the fact that I am imposing as an english speaker on Steam?

Nope. Even if you put the settings to english it doesn't change a thing. (obviously..)

This is what I get when viewing the games in steam:

Fallout: New Vegas - Low Violence: German low violence version only available with German language

Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition - Nothing

Fallout 3 - Low Violence: German low violence version only available with German language

Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition - Low Violence: German low violence version only available with German language

Means...what exactly? You not only get a sh*tty censored version, they also deleted the original language? ..dafuq?

Why not put it in the settings to choose from? The language I mean?!

And why can I get the New Vegas Ultimate Edition uncensored but not the other ones?
