All sounds good to me! Except, like most of everyone who posted in this thread, I don't like the idea of FB connectivity. But I'm a 360 user so I wonder if this applies to the 360 gamers. If it does, it better not interfere with any of my Skyrim experiences.

On a lighter note: 6 MORE MONTHS!!!!! It seems like a month ago it was 7! lol joke joke

I much prefer an old, worn map. You know, one of those you imagine an experienced traveller having in a fantasy story. Something you can imagine holding in your hands. Not some high-tec 3D google map
Instead, keep it simple.

Like the maps in Uncharted 2? I wonder what the local/dungeon maps will be like?

I don't see the big deal about Facebook. It will be an option hidden in the main menu. You won't be seeing any of that in-game.

I hope Dovahkiin's ability to see the world like that has some connection with the storyline and who he is, rather than just some magical 3D map.

Facebook and the 3D map are garbage, but at least they are easy to fix with mods.

The way the '3D' map has been described so far sounds pretty good to me, however, it would be nice if we could find maps of certain regions, or dungeons, that we could then examine in our inventories. The Facebook thing would be annoying, but surely you can just ignore it?

Haven't played that game so I don't know, but I think you know what I mean anyway :P
Old, worn map.

I'm guessing 3D as well for local/dungeon "maps", since it's already 3D for the "map" otherwise.

Facebook and the 3D map are garbage, but at least they are easy to fix with mods.

Pretty sure the 3D map wouldn't be able to be fixed by mods. Sounds hard to take away such a big feature and code in a totally new one. Plus all the map markers and such would have to be added or re-arranged, etc...
It sounds like a hell to mod away. I'm guessing we'll have to live with it ^^. Not a biggie for me, but still a minor disappointment.

It's obvious the facebook thing would be optional as well, if it gets added ^^
Could be good though (not for me, I would hate it) for Bethesda. Extra attention and "commercial" for the game.

No, they are going to force you to make a facebook account and put in your FB info before you can play the game.

I'm not a big user of Facebook, but I think people are over-reacting.

1. svck it up. Facebook is hugely popular. It's natural for Skyrim players to want to share their characters. What better way to do that than through the existing infrastructure?

2. The only way this could be bad is if it is intrusive. But there's no reason to think that. Indeed, it is more likely than not that it won't be intrusive. Bethesda can't require you to have a Facebook account to play. So why would playing the game require you to be logged into Facebook?

This is a good way of putting it.

Thanks for the new info... I'm dying to see the screens from this and the new gameinformer, will they probably get uploaded to the ES website after a while or not?

Things I'm worried about in Skyrim from this info:
Friendly dragons you can talk to "Say wha!?!"
Facebook connectivity. If I see a facebook logo ingame I will flip.

Decent news although the FB thing is just stupid.

Thankfully it was just a translation error.

@DCDeacon In a German game magazine it was reported that Skyrim will have connectivity to Facebook. Is this true? What is good about this??

@Mankar_Camoran Gonna have to chalk that up to an error in translation or something. We said nothing of the sort.

NMD. Pete said it was a translation error. No Facebook.

The "friendly" dragons won't be like "Say my good boy, why don't you sit down and have a nice spot of tea?" They'll have deep intimidating voices, but they won't be trying to kill you.

I think I know the obvious reason for a 3D map; Bethesda mentions that Skyrim would have a lot of "vertical" space. Mountains everywhere.

This means it isn't just important to know the distance between point A and B on the map on a straight line; you would also need to know if there are any mountains in the way, and where the winding mountain passes are. Even harder to see if some paths are tunnels or otherwise overlap.

The 3D map might well be a necessity for you to get anywhere in Skyrim. No more making a bee-line towards your destination.

Then give us a topographical map.

A flat map simply won't do for this game. The world is so detailed, a map like in Oblivion won't suffice.

I don't see a problem with the 3D map and it will let you know when your passing by an impassable mountain area. Giving you time to prepare for a detour.

You could also... you know... look with your eyes and see if the mountain looks too steep in-game, and if it looks too steep, you can think and choose another route.

That's what I probably will be doing as looking at the map will take too much time, not to mention that I may find treasure on the Mountain.

Even the steepest mountains may have passages.

I definitely agree. I like the idea of your character just using an actual map.
This 3D map seems to be "out of the game" as in your character can't interact with it in any way.
Besides that I find it a really unnecessary gimmick.

It's a big part of their shift with the new UI.
