Get rid of magic projectiles in Skyrim?

Post » Sun Mar 21, 2010 5:33 pm

What's best in life?

To crush console players, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women. :chaos:

This is getting ridiculous.

However, as discussed in other thread, it would be nice to have different speeds available for spells. Not because of difficulties to hit something, bt for added 'realism' and complexity.

I think that would cause you to lose the game.

This is getting ridiculous. There is an option for both.

That’s interesting. I’ve never thought about it from a console point of view before.

But since TES is a role playing series and your skills are meant to be based in your stats not your player skills I think that they should use a lock on system.

You have to lock onto a target in your screen before firing, and if you hit or not should be dependent on your skill.

This should go for thrown weapons and bows and arrows as well.

I like that idea for magic, but me being a fan of RPGs and FPSs, I'd like the bows and thrown weapons to remain skill based. Oh and better look movement would help us console players as well with the bows and thrown weapons.

Nope, don't see the need. Never had any serious problem with hitting- any moving enemy was either:

A, looking for a path to me in which case I held fire or:

B, had found a path to me in which case they're not hard to hit since they run directly at you and right into anything you shoot at them.

(Or option C, they'd gotten to me- in which case I switched to touch spells that were so insanely powerful they died "so close to instantly as for the difference not to matter.")

It's magic. It's fantasy. Not real

Exactly my point. They aren't bullets.

Really? Don't have to be a [censored] bag. I usually play on a console. I use a gamepad. Oblivion has no aim tug. Not to mention the very X, Y ness of the way the look movement is.

I'm not being a bag of any kind. I'm being honest, bringing up facts based on arguments. If you can't take that, then why are you asking making this a discussion thread?
If you bring up a discussion, you should be prepared to face arguments.

I haven't played Oblivion on console so I don't know, but you did mentioned in the thread the same thing about the PC.
Slow projectiles is something well known in Oblivion. There are mods for it, which means people don't really like it. But to make all projectiles go "instantly fast" as you said, kind of like the speed of sound, I guess, is wayyy too much.
Increasing the speed by 30-60% is enough in my opinion. Feels much better. A balance between easy to hit and planning.

Wow, [Censored]. This is getting ridiculous. There is an option for both. There is a reason I put that there. That is the option I chose myself.

I expected arguments, but you said it sarcastically. You assumed I didn't know that I have to time my shot. I do. I've said this too many times; there is an option to have both.

Voted no. Have the spells travel the speed they currently do at low skill level. From skill lvl 50 and up, they increase towards the double. So dodging a fireball will still be fairly easy to do, but a shock will come at you at pretty much the speed of lightning :) The speed of your opponents spells can also be an indication of his skill. If his fireballs are very quick, evasion might be the proper tactics, and face him later when you have gained a few levels/skills. If we're going to have unleveled opponents that are going to crush us for sure, it would be nice to be able to gauge their abilities somehow - before it's too late :) I prefer being able to gauge and run, than attack and reload...

I'm hoping that Beth changes that. Tweaks the AI/make the player character run slower backwards.

Ive just had another thought. Maybe some spells should have instant effects over distance.

If you have a lock on your enemy then when you cast the spell it effects the enemy instantly. Theres no reason magic cant do that, its magic. :P

Why lockon? Aiming is funnest part... I dont know why you would want the game to autofunction something like that.

Gotta be careful with some of this talk if you start mentioning liking a lock on feature like I would that gets more accurate as you progress in lvl then people start saying you are a fallout VATS person without realizing that you could do something somewhat similar without have to have VATS.

the projectiles where still hard as balls to use. Oo and bow and arrow is almost useless.

I think you just need to practice your skills a little. I don't like Orcs but I don't want them removed or replaced... <------(ORC)

???? It's rated M on consoles, but I don't think there are any blood decals in the console version.

I don't want them removed I vote to have both. More variety in maguc spells can't hurt.

Don't hate on console players as a whole (I'm PC), because then the thread will get locked.

It would be cool if they have spells that take a while to cast, that can make people combust into flames.

To be fair, you're complaining about aiming where they'll move or backing up so they charge directly in front of you.

I find no need for this; the speed of magic projectiles in Oblivion was fine. If you have trouble hitting your targets that is not because you are a console gamer, you just need to... be better. Most enemies move in straight lines either directly toward you or directly away, so the speed of the projectile does not really matter so long as you aim at your target. If you really need a faster moving projectile go buy a bow, but if the issue is in the man not the tool you may wish to invest in an axe.
