Getting Brink on the 10th... In the UK?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:14 am

Hey everyone!

Been lurking these forums for a couple of days in the building hype that is the impending launch of Brink and I have only just noticed an awkward fact...

The US gets Brink a full 3 days ahead of the UK?

For what purpose!? for what reason!? It's all on steam, all the files are there are they not? I cant see the EU version being worked on in that 3 days!

So, my query,

Is it possible for me to use a key purchased from the US Direct2Drive site to get the game on the US release?

I do not particularly want to do this through steam as that would require a proxy of sorts to circumvent their regional locks. But having a US key from a third party site should... be ok?

I thought I would ask the kind folks here if anyone has ever done such a thing on steam in the past :)

Thanks in advance for any and all replies!

The reason the US gets it 3 days earlier since the release day is Tuesdays in the US and Friday in Europe.

Ok, Right, that makes sense for that! Thanks for clearing that up!

Still, any ideas on how us Brits can enjoy the game with you on day 1?

And to this day, no one but game developers understand the thinking behind that.

They pushed the release dates forward 1 week a little while ago. The UK release is 13th of May.

Nope sorry, no way for you to get it on day 1. Unless of course you move to America for a day, get it, and go back to wherever you are located

Being from scotland is does kind of make you sick in your throat a little knowing were delayed a WHOLE 3 days- While others are already building up chars and getting into the swing of things.

But then again not much can be done - except hope during those 3 days break... You have something to do to make it pass really....really fast :P

Maybe H0RSE or I can get all the abilities and weapons online for you all. Although some people will likely still want to wait for the game.

I must honestly say I've grown quite tired of these out dated release days.

You would think such a counter productive way of releasing games had been forgotten years ago..

Im still waiting for that one big publisher with wits to stop this nonsense.

Guees Ill have to keep waiting, meh...

he wasn't talking to you :P

Also, when its the 10th in the US, its the 10th in the UK. There is only a 5 hour gap from the east coast to GMT. So I could definitely be playing Monday after work (when it is 1pm in the US and it would be 6pm in the UK)

@Munx - This [censored] is getting tiresome. Why cant they just do simultaneous worldwide. Steam do it already >:(

simultaneous download would work online but for disk copies it wouldnt work as the timezones would screw everything up so tryin to release it all at once would be diificult

Considering they need to make limitations on how they ship. The time differences are one of the factors. But if US has a Tuesday release date and Europe has a Friday release date, the developers are going to follow according to what that date is. I don't think breaking the rules is a good idea to do, especially when it comes to something you are selling.

I assume that you could buy it trough D2D US using hidemyass or another webproxy, and then download it the 10th... :D

else just buy a VPN, and you can download it and buy it through a US download shop, and they will see you as an American :) problem solved

the issue is you have to download it through steam, D2D are only provided steam keys and not the download. So it would still need to go through my steam account >:(

ozgameshop are based in the UK, but they're promoted as an Australian site, so they SHOULD have things available in Australia on the Australian release date (assuming release date shipping), which is the 12th. It's going to be another day to get here though, which probably means 13th.

Your best bet is to ask them though, some places screw NZ over just because we're in the middle of nowhere (which is why I pre-ordered from a shop where I can get face to face with the people working there and see whether it's them or their suppliers I need to be angry with.

EDIT: Just found the website... here's what it says about Brink:

"Game will be despatched to you on or before the release date of 13th May 2011"

Yeah, sometimes Game store websites may post out the game a day or two before to make sure it arrives on release date. It depends on when they get their stock, I believe. If it's being posted out to NZ from UK then if they only post it day before, I wouldn't be too sure you'd receive it on the 13th. I've pre-ordered mine online for delivery (I'm from the UK) and I reckon it'll be probably the 14th or the 16th when it gets here.
