Getting Drunk

Post » Sun Jun 20, 2010 7:43 am

I think you should actually be able to get drunk when you consume wine and stuff in skyrim. I used to get a house and put different types of liquor in it, but even the stronger varieties of alcohol did nothing noticeable to my character when i drank it. I hope to get drunk in skyrim :)

Interesting. With a fully developed attributes system one could simulate drunkenness. I wonder if these SR health meters can do that?

What is drunkenness supposed to do to attributes in your opinion? Decrease intelligence? And thus reducing mana pool? Does that make sense?

they dont even have to make it have anything to do with your attributes....it could just make your vision kinda blurry and you wobble or fall over if you walk too fast.

It would be fun if you were already drunk in real life

Other than that not sure if it would be much use. Unless NPCs recognized when you were inebriated. Then it would be hilarious! Go on a rampage while drunk and then people call you a drunken murderer.

Just my thoughts.

It only makes sense if you understand what attributes are supposed to do.

But first, what does alcohol do? It impairs judgement, balance, reaction time.... One of these, balance, was already linked to an attribute. Are you telling me you do not understand how this could work?

All things that some sort of underlying "attributes" would need to control. Vision, balance, and reaction time could possibly be stand alone attributes, or they could be derived from the previous 8 "core" attributes. Either way, they would need to be represented in some manner though.

Just because attributes are gone doesn't mean all the rest is. That's what most people can't seem to understand? Try to think without attributes....

yes because the only game that alcohol should actually affect people is GTA -.- If they put alcohol in a game and give you the option to drink it, you should get drunk. Otherwise why do they put it in at all? Npcs should get drunk to. If gta could do it in 2008, surely betheda can figure it out in 2011. The future is now.

It just seems like its been a more common thing since GTA.

Actually, it does.

Balance is a perfect example. It was previously weakly linked to one of the core attributes and was not really developed very far.

Can you tell me how something like balance, in game, can be impacted without some sort of underlying attributes system?

Please keep in mind that balance, itself, is a character attribute. :whistling:

GTA didnt have an attribute system yet they pulled it off in 2008. The question isnt whether they CAN or not...it is whether they will or not

They did not have an interactive attribute system like TES, nor was what they had as developed as TES.

Alcohol consumption could at first lower your Magicka. Then once you consume more you'll begin to get a temporary reduction/increase in certain skills depending upon your race. Nords should be able to consume more alcohol and experience an increase in strength, or more correctly the associated skills and fatigue; since there's no longer any attributes. More consumption will cause these skill levels to plummet over time. You will then experience distorted perspective and depth on screen. This state could also provide interesting dialog options with NPCs. You can also have a consumption level that will result in blacking out and waking up in a drunk tank in the local jail. The effects could also vary depending on the kind of beverage.

Could something like that work? I mean, it's just taking what they've done before a few steps further.

I think a small amount of alcohol could give you a modest boost to damage dealt, temporary hit points, and stamina More alcohol will give you a little more damage and a little more health but will start impacting your vision and balance based on how much stamina or health you had in the first place . Too much alcohol will of course make it nearly impossible to operate normally.

Skyrim isn't a lot of things, yet it doesn't stop BGS from looking at other games for inspiration.

I for one would welcome inebriation if my PC drank more than a few beers. It really depends on the physics system to accompanies it though.

Exactly. That would also be hilariously fun. Running through the streets drunk, tripping on your own legs, falling over, running into people that you don't want to run into, spending the night in jail for hitting a guard that said "good night" to you...
