Getting a haircut...

I think it would be nice to be able change it during the game. Sometimes, after a few hours, you realize that your character isn't looking that well, and changing your hair and beard could fix this.

That would actually be a great idea. You should make a thread about it, then bethesda might see it.

Naaah. I'll leave the honour to you.

In the grand scope of things, this would probably come in dead last on my priority list. I could make the 'realism' argument that people running around outside in snowy cold windy conditions all should have the pretty much the same look anyway. Straggly wind-blown look. However, it is a fantasy game and I am actually one of those people that spend a LOT of time making my character look just right at creation. If I get bored with a particular look, I will usually end up rerolling a new character from the start anyway as it is very likely that its the characters choices/path/ability that I am really not enjoying.

Yeah, it is a very basic thing. But for some reason we do not have it.

Also, most of you guys like changing to cool looking armor and weapons, so I don't see why you are so negative towards hairstyle.

My thoughts from a similar thread, slightly modified:

"Well, even if the Nords are not an exactly equivalent to the Norse, I do believe that Nords are "inspired" by the Norse.

Resultantly, I look to Viking mythology and history to include the various Eddur, studies of archaeology and anthropology to create an historical image. I can then compare that image to life in Skyrim, knowing fully that Nirn is not Earth.

As far as being able to change the cosmetic appearance of one's player character, I know from my inquiries into Viking history, that they were very concerned about their appearance, groomed daily, washed their hands before meals, bathed often, and had saunas, etc.

Also available to them, were combs, razors, tweezers, and ear cleaners. Further, they had methods to "bleach" their hair color, to include beards. Those individuals of modest, or greater means, often had servants attend to them in matters of hygene, and grooming, etc.

With respect to cosmetics, those were available to much of civilization prior to that time historians have labeled the Viking Era, roughly from the late 700's, to about 1066 A.D. Also, note that the Vikings were skilled traders.

With magika, or not, it is not lore breaking to consider that some minor cosmetic changes could indeed occur, and that some sort of in-game shop could be included.

The ability to modify one's character was in FO3, and I would be surprised if something similar was not in Skyrim. It seemed to be a popular feature.

Personally, I am more in favor of being able to change hair style, color, and length, and to be able to modify beards, apply cosmetics and other markings, etc.

I am not in favor of racial or gender changes. For me, that would be lore breaking."

What?!

you could do so in Fallout 3. Personally I dont think it would make sense to go from no hair to tons of hair in a matter of seconds but I dont really care either way

It was growing quietly beneath your helm. It's only noticing that occurred in a matter of seconds. ;-)

Actually, in RP terms in could be meaningful to start out clean-shaven with tidily cropped hair and have your character become progressively scruffier over the course of his adventures. PC users have been able to do this in the past via the console, but Xbox and PS3 players might like to share the fun.

I think this is a issue(-ish) more suited for console gamers since you pc gamers can just use that. Lucky you :D

True, however it’s less dangerous and far easier to do it with a barber.

Ladies with beard will probably be pc only.

I'd also like to go to a barber to add and remove scars and such. Adding a scar to your cheek after a particularly hard-fought battle would add to a sense of personal history. I suppose barbers could also offer minor healing services in remote communities.

I don't like the idea. This game is about slaying dragons, not visiting the local barber. :P
It's also about immersion and player choice. Fallout 3 had it and that game was about surviving in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

I've been saying that for a long time! lol. YES. Why does my hair have to stay *EXACTLY the same throughout the entire game? It'd be a nice, convenient little touch. It doesn't have to be like a big deal or anything "OH LOOK YOU CAN EDIT YOUR HAIR!" Nah, but it'd be a nice little touch. Because sometimes I feel like changing it up to go with certain armors or looks.
I'm for it.

i dont know about hair actually growing and all but it would be nice to be able to give my guy a new look every now and then. i mean this is a role playing game... maybe my character is tired of his long hair getting blown in his face in the mountains and wants something shorter

No purpose, it's not a mmorpg

what if you want to make a big bushy bearded mage but then you change your mind and dont feel like restarting? then you wouldnt perhaps want to change into a well trimmed warrior, or something of the sort? im for it and would love to see it personally

I don't see why not. Some times I grow tired of the facial hair as well as the hair style I chose in Oblivion and Fallout 3. It wouldn't be hard to implement and it would allow people to role play the time that has passed. I see no logical reason to not include it.

there is an option to cut your hair in fallout 3?

That is what the game is about for you anyway :P
Adding more customization is never a bad idea in my opinion.

I might like to start the game RP that I've been in prison for a long time. It would be cool if I could start with wild crazy long hair and beard until I have escaped and got enough coin to pay to change my hair.

They implemented this feature in Fallout 3, so I think they'll cross this over to Skyrim aswell.
If not, it'll be a simple thing for the mod community.

It's also not about smithing or woodcutting but those are included in the game.
I would love to have barbers in the town. Most towns throughout history had barbers of some kind.
