Getting Hitched

Post » Wed Jul 06, 2011 4:29 pm

I have two major concerns:

1. I hope it's not shallow and silly like it is in every other game I've seen marriage in

This is my concern as well. However, Bruce mentioned that these relationships also involve the NPC at hand to offer a helping hand as a companion/adventuring side-kick. That's a good start if you ask me.

I gotta marry some badass Nord girl who can acompany me and beat everyone down now, or a mage maybe for some spell support. And if she dies, Radiant Story will replace my wife with her sister! Wait...

I like the idea of marriage and from the interveiw it doesnt sound so bad. but i do kinda wonder,
Will there be Interracial marriages?
Will some people marry other races? or some will only marry their own race?
Will i get different results if i marry lets say a Dark elf girl as a Argonian male "because they hate each other" from her parents?
And can we have gay marriages?

I think it would be cool if some people didnt marry the Hero because they are soo racist but some are open about BUT its harder to Open people up to form a relationship with you if your not their race....

I would like to date a Dark Elf as a Argonian =P

I think this'll definitely add to replay value. =) Betting they'll have same-six marriage in as well, which is a good thing.

More than likely IMO. The waters been tread well already by various other big RPGs and no ones gone up in flames over it.

Though Im not sure how theyd handle it. It would just be weird if EVERY NPC can be married and can be gay/strait/bi. Maybe just make the Falmer homosixual?

Why the Falmer? Maybe thats the reason why there are so few left...

Also, would this apply to relationships?

13) To what extent will our racial / gender selection at the start of the game will affecting our gameplay? Are there relationships affected by these choices?
Bruce: Your race is very important. It’s more than just how you look. Each race has a bias toward certain types of characters. If you want play a wizard, it will be easier with a High Elf or a Breton. If you want to play a warrior, it will be easier with a Nord or a Redguard. However, just like in Oblivion, we don’t force you to follow that bias. If you want to be a Nord wizard, that’s completely viable.

Gender does not change any initial skills or abilities. There is nothing that men do better than women or vice versa in the game. Other characters will recognize your gender and address you properly. Some may have prejudices for or against a particular gender as a part of their character, but it won’t change what you can or can’t do.

That wouldn't make any sense at all.

Yeah I don't know what your parents taught you about the birds and the bees but you can have kids out of wedlock.

I'd also like to add to this discussion: what do you guys think the Nordic marriage ceremony would be like? Certainly not tuxedos and white dresses.

I envision the newlyweds seated together on barbaric thrones, while friends, kin, and fellow heroes feast and bring forth their wedding gifts. Guests rise to make toasts, as beautiful women (or men) dance half-naked, and young warrior men (or women) beat out a primal wedding rhythm on their shields.

Of course, the wedding will be considered to have gone quite badly if at least one monster doesn't burst in and attempt to eat the guests.

As far as I know, no group in Tamriel is against homosixuality. There have been few instances of it occurring in-game, but I've never heard anyone say anything bad about it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I found a short article about the viking attitude about homosixuality, I'm not going to link it, it was somewhat graphic, but apparently it was very passive much like it was in Roman culture, but it usually occurred in a violent way, or in a Master and Slave relationship to show ones dominance over another male. I would think TES Nords would be less concerned about gender roles though, and it would be present in a much more healthier relationship.

About the ceremony, I would think it would be a family gathering with an elder or parent giving them away. I'm not sure how it would be handled in the game though...

Do you think your wife/husband will be able to find out if you flirt with another NPC?

Could lead to some interesting dialogue!

No [censored]. Do you know how long it takes to have a child? "Honey, I' m pregnant!" *nine months later* "Look, he's already 10 years old!" Makes complete sense.

I love the idea but I can see some problems occuring.

1. Is Beth going to allow S/S or will it just be M/F. That's the main problem if you have this feature then you must accommodate or else you'll have some people start a thread and complain about it. Thankfully you can't do a petition but if someone does a poll and the results are in the favor for S/S then it may be implemented. S/S could also bring up some Controversey's in other countries so don't expect to find Skyrim in places that oppose S/S in a big way outside of speech. I'm neutral and I really won't complain what direction Beth takes on S/S.

So what your saying is I won't be able to get this game in the southern half of the United States now? :whistling:

Scenario 1:

1) Open console
2) Find character ID
3) Type in set essential command
4) ???
5) Profit?

Scenario 2:

1) Nord wife dies
2) Dragonborn: "Didn't she say she had a twin sister?"
3) ???
4) Even more profit?

I wouldn't look at Norse culture for this. Weren't they monogamous? Nords in TES are into polygamy, with a spouse(s) having different roles (War-Wife, Bed-Wife, Wine-Wife, or Hearth-Husband or Pity-Husband) sometimes with different spouses having the same role.

Was he gay? I know he was quite feminine, but I don't remember anything specifically homosixual about him. Then again, I preferred Madness Armor and Cutter, so I didn't talk to him that much.

I know Caius Cosades in Morrowind would flirt with both men and women, and there are other examples of homosixuals in Tamriel. As I said, I don't think anyone in-game has ever stated any aversion to homosixuals. Lore-wise, I don't think there's any problem. It's whether or not it'll actually be featured that makes me wonder.
