Getting Hitched

Post » Wed Jul 06, 2011 2:30 am

It seems that you can now get married in the game, according to Bruce Nesmith:

7) Will we be able to have relationships with the NPCs, romantic or otherwise?
Bruce: Absolutely! You make friends with people by doing things for them. Friends in the game will treat you differently. Some of them will even agree to go with you into dungeons and on adventures. You can even get married. If you own a house, your spouse will move in with you.

What do you think about this new feature?

This is the internet, we don't need no stinkin' sources.

To the question at hand, my character will marry every person in the game. We shall be one giant family.

Some games I will settle down and marry, others I'm a lone wolf. What I want to know though: Will we be able to have children?

I think that it's a nice feature to have. For those who don't want to get married, you are in NO way obligated to be. But it allows the game to feel more realistic, at least for me.

Wasted time that could've been used to add spears or medium armour. I'm very disappointed.

Real heroes don't get married!

Interesting (if surprising) feature, though. I wonder how dynamic the system is; if virtually any NPC is a potential husband/wife, gender and race will be mostly irrelevant, I'd think. Of course one can just as easily exclude certain matches from an otherwise highly dynamic system, so I dunno.

I wonder what the domestic violence charges are in the game.

My male Altmer, probably won't, but that's just backstory reasons. Unless there is some sort of benefit of marriage or if I decide to change his backstory (which happens a LOT).

Oh, and same six marriages WILL be in the game. They'll get 50 billion complaints otherwise.

I usually play my characters as an extension of myself, so my character will only get married if same six relationships are in the game. If its not in, its not something I will lose sleep over, I'd probably just be a confirmed bachelor which I think makes more sense then actually having a family anyway.

I didn't think about this. Wonder if an elf would be able to marry someone from that racist Nord faction. Or an Argonian marry Leyawiin's Countess. I know she won't be in it, I mean someone like her.

At least now I won't have to make up some spouse for my characters while working on timelines.

I have two major concerns:

1. I hope it's not shallow and silly like it is in every other game I've seen marriage in

2. I better be able to be homosixual and get married to another chick or have two men hook up.

More than likely.

It will be intersting to see how marriages between different races, especially the beast races will be treated by NPCs in-game.

Is there a history within the lore of, for example, Argonians and Khajit marrying non beast races?

If racism or xenophobia is some prominent story element within the game, how will some of those cranky old Nord NPCs react to a Nord marrying a Dunmer, or an Argonian, for example?

I like this idea. However, my character will only be getting married if s/s marriage is an option. I'd rather not have to play as a male just so I can have a female move into my house.

So yeah if they give us s/s i'll definitely be all over this :D

I'm not against the idea, but I think we should consider if the Nordic culture would condone it.
