I'm Getting Really Worried About these Graphics....

Post » Fri Sep 23, 2011 1:45 pm

Oblivion was almost ruined for me because of how poorly it ran on the 360. I don't have the money to afford a high end gaming rig, like some of you guys have, so I;m limited to a console. With all the framerate dips, loads, and pop-up CONSTANTLY in the over world, it destroys immersion on a consistent basis. It seems almost intentional. You're walking along and nothing bad is happening, and you're finally starting to feel immersed, then boom, freeze-popup. It was so annoying. So, in my quest for the Ultimate fantasy RPG, I was disappointed. I moved on to Two Worlds 2, which got ruined for me because it had the worst screen tearing of anything I had ever seen ever. I mean, REALLY bad screen tearing.

I want so bad to finally get my ultimate RPG in Skyrim, but even though gameplay is more important, technical issues really destroy the hold the spell the alleged game is supposed to cast on me, by shattering that reality with graphical errors.

Even though it was reportedly a "June" build, that poster who had 40 minutes of experience with it really has me worried due to the screen tearing and glitches he experienced. What if they SAID it was a June demo just to cover their asses? It looked good when Todd showed us that 30 minute demo....but Idk anymore. I;m really worried they'll drop the ball, but I so don;t want them to....

E-pinions? Should I be worried?

I don't think so. I just read the latest Gameinformer and the article about Skyrim had a pretty good description of how the game played on the 360. The author specifically mentioned how smooth the game played and how the load times were relatively fast.

Creating demo builds eat up a lot of development time They have to remove every main-quest related thing from the game world. That takes time.

No need to be worried, the Beta they were showing off was Alpha build, before most things have been fixed. Skyrim will run fine. (I hope. :P)

Me too. I wonder if it was an alpha build... And if so you'd think they would warn the players.. Why would Beth even let the public play on the alpha? That makes 0 sense. Beta build would make more sense but I am really really worried about screen tearing and freezing if this wasn't alpha. If this was beta.. Idk if I will buy skyrim

My Xbox is relatively new. Its a glossy 250 gig slim.
Oblivion runs just as bad on it as it did on the past TWO Xboxes I've owned. Even on install.
It's generally accepted that 360 Oblivion is a joke, running wise.

They seem to have everything going well, Im sure that "June Build" is a lot older than June. But if it turns out ugly, the next Elder Scrolls won't have any issues like this, because it will be next gen.

My 360 has died like 5 times, though its one of the origional versions. Got an elite a while back but that is dying aswell.

I'm not worried, perhaps a little concerned, but since I've been burned by two major titles(non Bethesda) so far that's not surprising, I'm hoping Bethesda really has put in the time to polish the game.

Also don't forget I wasn't playing on 720p or 1080p and the TV's setting were all mucked up, the staff told this themselves after I asked them why it looks so funny.

It's hard to make a world so immersive, with so many elements, run smoothly on ancient hardware. I hope they get things ironed out for you, but I would also gently suggest saving every penny for a decent computer instead of continually investing in console stuff. It's just the nature of the console- the older it gets, the more dated it's going to be. Good luck :)

Exactly. Also, http://geekmandem.com/2011/09/22/preview-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/

"Skyrim provides a massive increase to the detail and attention given to everything seen visually in the world: the terrain is absolutely stunning to behold, and it was hard not to just sit and stare at everything around me at times."

That's just one of dozens of quotes like that from many journalists.

That doesn't really explain how the game runs, though. I'm sure if you stand still, everything looks great, but once you start moving too fast everything falls apart...

I was going to edit that, but I thought it would amuse me to see a Grammar Nazi come along.

I kid, I kid. All I am saying is just wait and see. Oblivion was graphically amazing for it's time, and so was Morrowind. No doubt Skyrim will be visually good. While I am not worshiping Bethesda like a fanatic, I am saying they never failed to dissapoint before.

Running on the same old hardware for more than a half a decade has its limits..

I don't see how anyone needs a high end rig to run these things though.

I [censored] swear to God if I hear that [censored] word one more [censored] time I'm gonna AHHHHHH!

Okay I'm done. But yeah, Beth is probably gonna dedicate at least the last 2 weeks they have with the game just on optimization for each system. You'll be fine.

He was also playing on a "stellar" PC. Don't know what that means though.

The rig that we were allowed to play the demo on was a fairly stellar piece of computer, and odds are, a lot of people are not going to have something with that much power sitting on their desks.
