Getting a Tattoo for Skyrim!

Post » Tue Jun 22, 2010 1:43 pm

So I've been really wanting to get a tattoo for a few years now, and I'm finally going to do it. My love for the Elder Scrolls and my out of control excitement for Skyrim has inspired me to get my name in Norse Runes tattooed on the inside of my right forearm. I found http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/ancient/write-your-name-in-runes.html by PBS NOVA that allows you to translate your name into Norse Runes. Anyway, I've translated both my first name and my last name with the website and I want to know which one you guys think looks cooler.

P.S. Tattoos better be available during character creation in Skyrim...

Or you could take a step back and realise you'll regret it later.
What if it is rubbish?

How bout we just assume that he has thought it through, and is capable of making his own decisions?

There's no need to patronise each other :)

Are you Norse or your ancestry Norse? It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for a tat like that otherwise. How would you explain it to your grandchildren 40 years from now? "Well grandchild you see 40 years ago I liked a fantasy game with Nords, that are kinda like the Norse, so I got this tattoo ...".

If you are doing it for the game and your love thereof, then use Daedric runes. At least then you don't have to explain the Norse/Nord thing to someone.

First one, just because Surnames are more significant and unique to you. Plus the symbols look better.

People get their name tattoo'd on themselves in other languages for all kinds of different reasons. It's not like he's getting his name in Daedric or in the Dragon language, it's in Norse. I'm sure his whole reason for getting it isn't "Skyrim!"

I don't get the criticism.

Anyway, Picture 1 looks way better.

My recommendation? Don't. Tattoos are fads that you can't get rid of. When you get older, you will hate this.

I like the last name better. I say go for it. All the people patronising you with "Wah, dont do it, you'll regret it~!" forget the fact that 90% of life is full of regrets reggardless, so you might as well do what you want to do while your capable.

Edit: Friendly advice, don't trust a friend, or friends friend to do it out of their house or anything. Go to a legit tatoo studio, and get it done by a professional.

On your profile it says youre 19 years old. Youre goign to have it on you for the rest of your life. What will girls think? What will your children or grandchildren think? Its a video game. Dont tattoo it. its stupid

It's not like he's planning to put Dovahkiin's face on his back. It are Norse runes.

I agree with Velorien. He doesn't want a "Skyrim" tattoo, he wants a Norse tattoo and Skyrim probably inspired him. :) Do it! Do it! Do it! Tattoos are nice :)

Oh, and I think pic number 2 is cooler.

Getting a Tattoo for Skyrim! And I Need Your Help...

Don't?

*Also the 2nd link didn't work for me, I only saw the rune font.

Something to contemplate...

Will this mean much to you in 5 to 10 years?

*Will it mean much to anyone else? (being a 5-10 year old video game ~when these days, if its 6 months old its ancient garbage from back when they couldn't do better, and not worth playing :ooo:)

I don't need all the warnings about tattoos. I've been thinking about doing this for a long time. It's not a split decision... And although it's inspired by Skyrim, it's not just about Skyrim. When I get this done I will spare no expense and go to the best tattoo artist I can find...

Anyway, I'm also leaning towards picture 1. Picture 1 are the Runes that phonetically sound out my last name. The runes together also happen to symbolically (in terms of Norse mythology) translate as "a journey towards success."

I didn't know the Norse were simply made up for a video game? o.0

Guys, he has his own right to choose, and if he wants to get his name in Norse, then so be it. He is just asking which pic should he go with, not should he get the tattoo, so stop flaming. And lots of people get their names in tattoos from other languages.

I'd probably say the first one, but the second looked okay also.

though, if I wanted to get it because of my love for TES i'd rather do it in daedric than scandinavian norse runes that aren't really related
to elder scrolls in any way. Anyway, I hope you'll be pleased with it and that it's not only because of the skyrim hype. :)
