Think about what this tattoo will mean to you in 40 years. Seriously. Might as well go with cuneiform. Here you have a written language that actually existed as opposed to a "language" that was inspired by cuneiform and created by a game developer.

Your family is so unique and original. That being said there is no Y in the dragon language so you need to go ey, ei, or just go full Spanish with Familia

Edit: Just so you know on the first sentence I was jk, I have a transmutation circle from FMA on my chest. Forgot to mention lol

That's the alphabet. Not going to help at all with the actual language.

EDIT: That was a lame post on my part. Telling someone else that they're not helping without me helping that person is pretty stupid. Sorry about that.

Anyone who encourages you to proceed with the tattoo in dragonic is not your friend. Honour your family with something more dignified than a language made up for a game.

There are many archaic alphabets which might suit both your aesthetic sensibilities and the importance of the family tat.

Exactly why it won't work. Or maybe because it is in fact the HOMUNCULI SEALING TRANSMUTATION CIRCLE! A HAH!

Excuse me for purging on the parade, but why is this in the Skyrim general discussion?

Doesn't seem to have much to do with Skyrim.

Dear lord..

Just know this is something that is there forever man, even if you get is lasered off it will still be visible.. do you want your future wife or kids asking what it is and you say it's the language from a video game 10-20 years ago?

It's your body just offering my opinion. There is a alphabet out there somewhere..

Why not get it in Norse or something, that looks like the dragon language symbols and it's infinitely better looking and still fits in with Skyrim.. not to mention it's actually cool! :D

I think people will make fun of you for the rest of your life if they find out what it is man so just please, think about it.

People tattoo butterflys and anything else they may love. The way I see it this is no different. Just make sure you've thought it through completely.

As I said before, I have a transmutation circle on my chest. Did I get it to describe my undying love for Fullmetal Alchemist? No. I got it because I like how it looks. And while a tattoo is not a decision to be taken lightly, I say go for it. If someone regrets a tattoo they got 15 years ago they either screwed up enough of their life to nitpick about what they want to go back and change or they were idiots and got this: http://tattoos-101.tattoofinder.com/files/steve-o-01.jpg

Not trying to be mean, but I'm just saying you were being pretty harsh for little reason.

It's really not my business, but this is something you really should think through. As others have stated, the tattoo is permanent. As in, it'll be there LONG after the TES series comes to a close. As good as Skyrim will almost certainly be, it will fade into obscurity eventually just like everything else, and in 30 years, do you really want to have something from a game nobody knows about anymore permanently inked on your body?

EDIT: word choice.

Just remember that a tattoo is forever.
Do not get anything now you will regret when you are 50.

Especially this one girl I once knew, who had a huge sunflower tattooed around her bellybutton.
It was: Wow, thatll be awful once youre 50.

Get something small, on a place covered by clothes and not prone to wrinkle too much.
Though keep in mind that ageing means youll wrinkle too much.

I agree - if you have it somewhere discreet, it's possible that if you do change your mind about it in the future it won't be too much trouble.
Also, have you considered that you might not like this game? I mean, it sounds good so far but don't you think you're being a bit hasty in that regards?

Don't do it man. Not because its a made up language, but because it just doesn't look good. I mean, its all just scratches, there's nothing artistic about it because it wasn't designed that way, it was made to be something scratched into a rock with a claw.

There may be the word family in Nordic or dunmer that looks good... I would go with the Viking Nordic instead of TES Nordic because it fits both the spirit of the tattoo and the flavor your looking for.

On the topic of tattoos, I bet a tat of Hircine would be pretty badass. Kinda like that cover of the mastodon cd, with a spear and maybe a wolf.... hmmm

Who cares what anyone else thinks in 30 years. Tattoos are personal and you will be able to look back on it yourself and remember what it meant to you at that time. Essentially it has the meaning that you want, no matter what language it's in, with the bonus that the language looks nice written, it's unique, and means something to you personally.

I say go with it dude, just triple check the translation from numerous sources. Unfortunately I can't help with that. There are a few on here though who got the translations pretty quick.

I'm with you man.

The OP is asking for help with finding what 'family' is is Dragon Tongue...not your opinion of the tattoo! To everyone saying 'Wow you're stupid for getting this tattooed' and 'People will make fun of you for the rest of your life'...all these comments are off-topic, and thus spam! If he was asking what we thought, then you'd be fine...so how about you all just get off your high horse and let this guy make his own decisions about his own body, yeah?

[/rant]

[help]

As for your question OP, as a couple of people have pointed out, there is no y, or a single i, so it's looking pretty unlikely that it'll work out :( Perhaps choose a different language?
