hell no. that is a horrid service and it wasnt optional in fallout 3. you could delete it or use mods to get rid of it but in order to get the DLCs you had to buy from that crappy marketplace. steam beats GFWL easily. in a perfect world there would be no service at all required but ill take steam over all the rest ive tried. i just hope they dont attach securom or tages or whatever like i see some games do on steam. thats a bit redundant.

Actually, it was optional, you didn't have to log in to play, & you only needed it to get the DLC before they went to the "addon 2 packs" & then the GOTY edition of Fallout 3.

while Steam maybe a good choice for you, It isn't a good one IMO if everyone MUST use it IMO

Well, as long as Steamworks stays a cost-effective method, it will follow us through PC gaming. I don't see that changing, really, unless Valve suddenly turns completely evil.

You mean snobby attitudes, releasing only mediocre games recently barring Portal, making digital sells more popular potentially lowering the future of being able to own a physical copy ISN'T evil?
An let's not even talk about Gabe.....

EDIT: People are acting like both of Bethesda's last games weren't Games for Windows Live games. Chances of Skyrim being as such is good. And I approve of it. Infinitely better than that hell called Steam.

Steam, Games for Windows Live, Impulse, Direct2Drive, Securom... I don't care what they put on it or how they distribute it.

Unless it comes packaged with HIV I'll prolly' buy Skyrim no matter what.

Fallout: New Vegas was not a GFWL release, and despite being made by Obsidian it was published by Bethesda and therefore they made the decision about how it was released.

steam digital copy>physical copy

1: physical copy breaks your toast steam copy is for as long as steam exists and Gabe has stated if steam were to defunct he would release DRM controls and the court would probably make him as well. Don't worry there is always consumer rights activists ALSO ZOGm the pc is an open platform therefore you can buy from impulse, desura, gog and then if the games have steamworks OH WELL it's a good drm b/c is not obtrusive unless you have like 2gb's of ram.

2: o no digital sales IM FORCED TO BUY A GAME for $15 instead of $60 woh to us all.

3: o noez it has friends lists, voip, crossgame chat O NOEZX.

4: wtf is this i can buy ALL OF BETHESDA'S games for the low price of $70's instead of paying over 150 for them all OH NOEZ.

5: o my internetz is down good thing theres offline mode.

As for half life 2 being mediocre; the internets would disagree, TF2 it's more of a "fun" not to competative shoot em up same with CS:S, and alien swarm and how can you qq about that, it's free. Not to mention all the EVIL FREE CONTENT they've released O and damn them for releasing the SDK so source is one of the most used engines by modders and indie devs oh so evil......seriously bro

and yet you played a GFWL game..........

if you put up a poll on ANY gaming forum and ask whether people, if they had to choose would rather have STEAM or GFWL i guarantee you that STEAM will win every single time. i bet it would be almost a tie if you put it on the GFWL forums.

as for releasing mediocre games......in case you havent noticed those games are made by indie developers.....obviously most of them are going to svck, just like most flash games svck. without the indies though we wouldnt get awesome games like mount and blade and amnesia. alot of games i have bought i cant find anywhere else so they are helping the PC community. everytime i go to blockbuster is seems like the PC gaming section keeps getting smaller and smaller.

@enossirq..........i still want a physical copy though. its quicker to install from a disk than redownload it from the interwebz. and i want to play my games NOW.

To say Games For Windows live is 'bad' would be a severe understatement and to even suggest TES:V (PC) should support it would only warrant a public trout slapping as punishment.

And Bethesda kind of, sort of, stopped using GFWL.

GFWL have ruined more gaming sessions than any other problem. It is terrible in Dawn of War II. A patch even made the game unplayable. GFWL is the worst thing that has happened to PC gaming in recent years.
I'm sorry to be so harsh when you found it rather enjoyable, and for the most part it was, but it has such a bumpy past that I cannot wish it be used for any game.

I hope you guys do know that Microsoft have updated GFWL this year and is working much better than steam.

That update made one of my beloved games unplayable. Whatever I did, the game would crash in 3-5 minutes. GFWL was the problem, and that was after that overhaul patch. Microsoft made Relic (the developer) fix their own game instead of fixing the problem that they started.

GFWL is full of all sorts of glitches, and it's DLC support simply svcks.

I am glad Bethesda adopted Steamworks.

Oh yes because new vegas was bug free and they haven't said there using steamworks yet for Skyrim.

and for the DLC? well lets just say the big M brings out the money again and Xbox get DLC first, if Skyrim isn't on G4WL then it will be delayed like ps3.

My sentiments were once with most of you.

GFWL is LAME. Steamworks is AWESOME. Etc.

I think it was the PC version of Dead Rising 2 that changed my mind. Stability seems fine. Performance is good. And seamless integration with X-Box live was a treat in and of itself. I can honestly say that I am NOT against GFWL support in future titles.

GFWL does not svck. There I said it.

Wait, what? How? Just checked, my copy works fine. And that's even without GFWL installed ...

Frankly, why people have a problem with options? Make GFWL optional for the people who like it, make Steam optional for its fans as well; this way everyone can have their online integration tool of choice with the game if they want one - or opt to not use either too if that's what they want. Best solution by far.

If they insist on using any of these ridiculous online attachment things, please, for the love of God, use GFWL. At least then I don't have to bother with registering an account and having malware running in the background while I try to play. GFWL was never a bother with Fallout 3. It just sat there, doing absolutely nothing. I even got the DLCs on disc, so I didn't have to deal with getting them online.

If one was truly paranoid, GFWL could even be totally uninstalled from the system, and FO3 didn't give a crap that it wasn't there. No joke. Did it myself after someone suggested it as a way to smooth out game stutter. And it WORKED.

Try that with a Steamworks game. I dare you. :P
