gfx card bottleneck

Post » Thu Jun 02, 2011 7:52 pm

Hello all on the gamesas forum, I was wondering if my intel core 2 duo @ 3.63ghz will be bottlenecking my 6870 that I will be getting. Should I upgrade to a core 2 quad, because my mother board does not support any of the new intel processors. thanks:)

Yes it will FOR SURE be bottlenecking.

I am running a core 2 dup at 3.4ghz.

I set my graphics to 800x600. My fps still dropped to around 35-40 at times when playing online. I ran gpu z in the background and it showed that GPU was only at 40% load. The only conclusion I could come to was that my CPU is limiting it.

I don't know what you should upgrade to since I am not sure how great quads perform on Cryengine

ok so, playing crysis 2 I would be running highest settings, hopefully. I have a 4770 now and i can run medium settings pretty well, but I was hoping for high settings. thank you.

It does not matter what my graphics card was. My gpu was running at 40% load and I was limited by my cpu to 40 fps.

I am telling you right now that at least in online, that CPU will be a bottleneck.

Try it yourself. Set you resolution to 800x600 and run fraps when you play. Your 6870 should easily achieve 150+ fps at that res. I am sure you will be running at 50fps or lower.

It will be a bottleneck, don't say anything different until you try for yourself.

I have an Athlon II X4 @ 3.0 GHz.
Haven't bothered monitoring hardware load yet. I'll run it and see what I find.

I have a Core i7 @ 4.5gigs with a GTX 580 and I am getting 70fps max 50fps min. I as far as I can tell my GPU is using 99% once I am playing. I believe I have zero to very little bottle neck.

Processors don't have ram so you have no clue what you are talking about. Processors run on speed or hertz. So you don't have those specs dude.

You have no idea what u are talking about I do have those specs I have my cpu under phase change it is right now at -40c that is how I have my cpu clocked so high. Also just because I said gigs does not mean it only applies to ram. IT apply to hard drives, ram, cpu speed, ETC.

you big dummy
the lower the res the bigger cpu is as a bottleneck
havent you look at any benches
and at that res a good gpu wouldnt even be stressed
horrible idea on your part

and it dont take
-40c to get 4.5ghz dentnu is just trolling you lawl

I know he thinks cpu speed is labeled gigabytes when obviously it is gigahertz. lol
Another question, what about the 6850? will my core 2 duo be bottlenecking that.

I am sorry I have not updated it to my Gtx 580 yet do me a favor stop hating and trying to find the little things to call me out on I am not trolling I do have this system and if you don't believe me so be it does not make a difference to me. I was just trying to add that with my system I get zero to no bottle neck. As far as I know once you hit 3.7 (GHZ) and up the bottle neck start to decrease the higher you go. Also the higher rez you game at the less of a bottle neck you have .

Every is CPU does cause bottleneck only way to get rid of the bottleneck is to overclock it to around 3.7ghz or more. So if I would run my core i7 at 3.2 gigs I would still have bottleneck just like a core 2 . what speed is your core 2 duo at ?

air, but I have got pretty good cooling. about 30c idle and about 37c under load. keeps pretty cool and stable for the high clock speeds.

Another reason to upgrade is the fact that I do a lot of video editing, although this doesn't have anything to do with crysis It does have to do with my overall reason to upgrade.

Those are really good temps you should keep pushing till you hit 65c and test your overclock setting with LinX or Prime95 to make sure you are 100% stable.

Here is a pic of my system being 100% stable at 4.5ghz and the max temps I got. Now before you call me out the reason you see -7c at the lowest is because windows can not see any thing less than that.

Here is a video of the what my temp is really at
