GHF Census and Excise Office #2

Great House Fliggerty Census and Excise Office

The General Idea

Imagine a website where you can view detailed stats about someone's Morrowind character, complete with a screenshot gallery. Now imagine that this website updates while you are playing. That's the general idea.

Keep in mind that much of this is a WIP. Some of the mechanics have not yet been worked out, but we have made some great strides lately, with many thanks to Peachykeen.

The Process

So you go to the GHF Census and Excise Office website and register for a new character. You are given a character ID, then you go play Morrowind. The mod setup process will ask you for this character ID, which it will use (obviously) to reference your character's stats online. In the game you will be given a book, "Census Logs," that you use to update certain bits of info about your character. You can set things like your current activity, current mood, etc. When you wish to upload your data to the CnE web site, all you do is save your game and then choose the upload option in the book.

Besides general character information, some of the things that will be uploaded (assuming I can get all of the scripts to harvest the data correctly, this IS still a WIP) are:

  • Current Activity (from user input)
  • Current mood (from user input)
  • Current location
  • Cell name (coords if in "Wilderness")
  • Current weather
  • Is a vampire (and what clan)
  • Is a werewolf
  • # of kills as a werewolf
  • Current companions
  • Currently equipped items
  • Amount of gold in inventory
  • If Fargoth has been killed
  • # of cliffracers killed
  • # of arrows shot
  • # of times a weapon has been "swished"
  • # of hits on targets
  • # of NPCs killed
  • # of creatures killed
  • # of times the console has been opened
  • #of spell cast attempts (for each school)
  • #of spell cast failures (for each school)
  • #of spell cast successes (for each school)

There will also be awards, or "badges" for certain acheivments in the game:

  • Levels: 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200
  • Opponents Killed: 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, 500, 1000
  • Creatures Killed: 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, 500, 1000
  • Slaves Freed: 10, 25, 50, 75, 100
  • Complete Morrowind Main Quest
  • Complete Tribunal Main Quest
  • Complete Bloodmoon Main Quest
  • Leader of Each Vanilla Faction (1 Badge Each)
  • Millionaire
  • Gave Fargoth's Ring Back
  • Killed Vivec
  • Nerevarine

And any more that we can think of!

Current Status

As of the time of this thread's creation, we are only a few days away from our closed ALPHA test. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to help us test by uploading their characters. Please http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2150&start=0

This is an ALPHA test. That means the base function if what we are testing. There are still a LOT of options we have to add. Right now it only gets the basic information: name, race, class, skills, attribs, etc.

The CnE site is under construction. I hope to have the skeleton of it working tomorrow; it will be running by the time we test.

What We Need Help With

Really, besides testing, all we are need of right now is graphic artists. We need to have icons for each of the badges, as well as anything else that you would be willing to offer that will improve the appearance of the site.

I have been updating my progress via my Twitter account. I've given various links and progress notes through it here and there. It's not a hard account to find. ;)

Truly brilliant. Congratulations on getting it to this stage. I will be sure to use this when I actually finish adding to my mod list and start playing the game (could be a while) :)

Think we can make something like a gamertag for this?

Moments ago I sent Fliggerty an archive containing the alpha version of the executable and my side of this project.
As soon as he verifies I wasn't going crazy when I thought I saw it work (:P) and decides the webpages are ready for public consumption, we'll start the testing.

Yes:

Then join the alpha. ;)

As in something linked to people's accounts/profiles or those little pictures people have all over the internet giving crazy useless data on how much they play WoW? :P
You can always show your character by char ID from links. Someone could probably harvest the data into a little picture.

You mentioned in Thread #1 uploaders having to select and crop a screenshot of their character to use online... and then you mentioned that bit about your AJAX pipedream. Does that mean we have to crop the screenshots ourselves and then upload the 75x75 (or whatever resolution it ends up being) image? Also, this next question may be solved by the implementation of the aforementioned AJAX pipe dream, but do you think it would be possible to have (optional?) a full-sized uncropped version of the "avatar" picture on the character's full page? Or perhaps, like you mentioned in the AJAX pipe dream (I should stop mentioning that so much...), we could have whole galleries of our characters and choose one and automatically crop it via web-based controls. :-)

Yeah, as it is you will need to crop the avatar yourself. I am thinking that perhaps I will allow for a "paper doll" image of your character on the profile page as well as an avatar, but that is only an idea at the moment. Each profile will have an entire screenshot album. If I am able to implement some sort of AJAX image cropping system, I will design it to draw images from the character's gallery.

Got the latest version of the exe. Working feverishly to get everything else ready to go. :goodjob:

Wow, this has come a long way since I last checked it out!

Idea on "Achievements"- instead of (or in addition to) having badges for what characters have done, I think it would make more sense if the actual user that uploaded the character(s) also had a badge tally, a sum of all the character badges they've received. That way, you could see how much a actual human player had gotten done, not just what their characters have done. I also think total playtime would be a depressing interesting stat to see, if it's possible.

Could the screenshots be added to the gallery simultaneously (you take the screenshot, it automatically uploads to your gallery). If so, that would be awesome, so as long as it asks you if you want the screenshot uploaded first, wouldn't want to upload something stupid by accident. ;)

"-snip- We need to have icons for each of the badges -snip-"

Can you please be more specific about this? Are there any guidelines or simply freestyling? I could help a bit, if you are not on a rush (it is quite a busy period for me a.t.m.)...

Cheers,
PKR.

Unfortunately, I don't think we can make that happen. Screenshots will need to be uploaded manually.

Testing isn't happening just yet. The post on GHF asked you to just let us know if you want to test. When we begin testing, we'll send you the program and mod along with instructions.

First of all, these need to be rather small, probably just 20px x 20px. I'd like them to somehow be reminiscent of Morrowind to at least some degree (though how possible/realistic this is for something so small I don't know.) And they ought to somehow signify what the achievement was. Other than that, I give artistic freedom. :goodjob:

That was my thought for at least some of them. I think we might have more badges than there are effects....maybe.

ALPHA testing has officially begun now.

I have sent a software package to everyone who has volunteered in the GHF thread. If you would like to join in the testing, please post here: http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2150&start=0

But it looks good, thanks :)

Scratch that, time to kick the girlfriend off the pc. ;)

OK, I'll give it a go tomorrow and show some results this weekend at GHF. However, please think of a better example, so at least I have a starting point: 20x20 is quite small, you know... ;) Wouldn't 32x32 still be good? I'm familiar with that size from making like a thousand of icons for AoWM... :)

Just in case anyone is curious and hasn't signed-up yet, I have been using this program for a few hours now.
It's easy to install and use, and despite a few skills not working yet on the site, the program itself works great.

The more testers, the more feedback we can get to Fliggerty. :)

Some of the character display tables are acting funny, so I'm working on that now.

If i were to awnser the questions included in the readme would i be able to freely use this???

Meaning if i were to awnser the questions is that enough to qualify as a alpha tester and be able to start up my character???

As for badge ideas... werewolves and vampire killed would be a nice feature.

Also you need to look at the postal service mod and make something like it so you can email people online while playing morrowind.

ALSO EDIT: Will this be easy to turn offline and back online as we choose?

ALSO EDIT2: Another idea is instead of current resience make an esp that includes a muesam/ house and make some badges for all the museam artifacts. Make it so that however you dont have to give the artifacts to the museam as some people like to keep items. Also how will the ranking system be determined? Mony? Level? Badges??????

I just tested it out...
The whole thing is just ridiculously easy to use from start to "finish". Great job you two!

Will this be easy to turn offline and back online as we choose?

You're not online. All you do is start up the uploader and click a couple things and you're done. It takes two seconds. :)
