Great House Fliggerty Census and Excise Office

The General Idea

Imagine a website where you can view detailed stats about someone's Morrowind character, complete with a screenshot gallery. Now imagine that this website updates while you are playing. That's the general idea.

Keep in mind that much of this is a WIP. Some of the mechanics have not yet been worked out, but we have made some great strides lately, with many thanks to Peachykeen, and all of those who have done a great deal of testing for me!

The Process

So you go to the GHF Census and Excise Office website and register for a new character. You are given a character ID, then you go play Morrowind. The mod setup process will ask you for this character ID, which it will use (obviously) to reference your character's stats online. In the game you will be given a book, "Census Logs," that you use to update certain bits of info about your character. You can set things like your current activity, current mood, etc. When you wish to upload your data to the CnE web site, all you do is save your game and then choose the upload option in the book.

Besides general character information, some of the things that will be uploaded (assuming I can get all of the scripts to harvest the data correctly, this IS still a WIP) are:

  • Current Activity (from user input)
  • Current mood (from user input)
  • Current location
  • Cell name (coords if in "Wilderness")
  • Current weather
  • Is a vampire (and what clan)
  • Is a werewolf
  • # of kills as a werewolf
  • Current companions
  • Currently equipped items
  • Amount of gold in inventory
  • If Fargoth has been killed
  • # of cliffracers killed
  • # of arrows shot
  • # of times a weapon has been "swished"
  • # of hits on targets
  • # of NPCs killed
  • # of creatures killed
  • # of times the console has been opened
  • #of spell cast attempts (for each school)
  • #of spell cast failures (for each school)
  • #of spell cast successes (for each school)

There will also be awards, or "badges" for certain acheivments in the game:

  • Levels: 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200
  • Opponents Killed: 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, 500, 1000
  • Creatures Killed: 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, 500, 1000
  • Slaves Freed: 10, 25, 50, 75, 100
  • Complete Morrowind Main Quest
  • Complete Tribunal Main Quest
  • Complete Bloodmoon Main Quest
  • Leader of Each Vanilla Faction (1 Badge Each)
  • Millionaire
  • Gave Fargoth's Ring Back
  • Killed Vivec
  • Nerevarine

And any more that we can think of!

Current Status

I consider this to be on the second ALPHA test, though I think we are on the verge of it being BETA. Once I have all of the initial data that will be uploaded working, we'll do a BETA test with a clean database. Following the success of that, it will be launched. Some have expressed hopes of a Christmas/New Years release; though to be honest I think that is a bit optimistic. Perhaps more like Valentine's Day, although Christmas miracles do happen. I just want to ensure we do a lot of testing before making it public.

I want to give a hearty THANK YOU to all of those who have helped test things already! :goodjob:

I still would appreciate more testing, I would like it to continue as progress continues. If you want to join in the testing, you just need to look to Twitter. I have provided links to my "tweeps." ;)

This is an ALPHA test. That means the base function if what we are testing. There are still a LOT of options we have to add. Right now it only gets the basic information (name, race, class, skills, attribs, etc) and we are acquiring and testing more of the extended data (enemies killed, # of spells cast, etc.)

The CnE site is under construction. The basic function of it is working just fine; characters can be registered and uploaded. Each character has a working screenshot gallery and a full mod-list display.

Here's something of a progress list:
  • Mod portion for harvesting extended data
  • Uploading of journals
  • Make extended leader board

I have been updating my progress via my Twitter account. I've given various links and progress notes through it here and there. It's not a hard account to find. ;)

Previous thread:
http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1025987

I want to make a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has been testing, this couldn't have happened at all without the patience and information provided by all of you!

My last post in the previous thread:

Marbred, please test the last file I posted in this thread: http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic....;p=44812#p44812

Solidfire, you appear to be having the same problem as Marbred, the extended data is not uploading. Will you check in your Data Files/MWSE folder and see if there is a file named Rach'jiit_data.cne? Or, failing that, any file ending in .cne. Also, did you record census data with the Census Log in the game?

its all good. now I'll be on to testing. btw I'm not finding out how to change my character's picture from a default picture. on here *deleted*
i don't see an option to change it.

figuring out how to change my picture is probably my last issue, besides a few other things, like health, fame and other things that seems to still be at 0

Please remove that link, I don't want the address to the site to be public yet.

The main menu has an option to upload images. That's where you upload your avatars and your gallery.

Upload works again. :)

Suggestion: maybe there should be a "Do Nothing" button when you equip the Log, in case you equip it by accident.

everything's working fine now, the only issue there is now, is that my health, magicka, fame, and factions haven't been updated, i guess I'll have to keep playing untill it ticks the scripts.

Marbred, the problem is obvious to me now, though the cause isn't. The extended data is not being uploaded because your character's name is not being appended to the beginning of the file. That's how the uploader program determines which file to get it from.

I'm sorry, man, that's my fault!
That post (in the last topic thread) that listed the files was without my character name just because I wanted to show you which files were being written. The files do have my character name before the underscore. I thought it would be easier just to show you the extension file names that were being written, and I thought the the PC name itself in the file name wasn't that important. I guess I was wrong!

I'll still use the newest test esp, because it'll give you more data, and like you said, the reason isn't clear yet. I'll be more clear in the future and provide you all the data. I feel like an idiot.

Will the location give cell names, coordinates, region names, all three or any combination of those three? Also, will location be compatible with other mods, such as TR or other landmasses the player may travel to?

It's cool Marbred, no reason to feel like an idiot. I jumped to a quick conclusion...not good practice with programming troubleshooting. ;)

So does *_data.cne have about 100 lines of data, one value per line, and most of them are 0? Is there anything intelligible in there?

Location data will contain coordinates and cell names. It will work for any place that has a cell name...otherwise it will just say "Wilderness." There is no way to get a region name. Exterior cell coordinates will be sent over to the UESP MW Google map; unfortunately it doesn't include any mod-added landmasses.

There will be a cliffracer badge at some point.

badge or achievement ideas:

devote cult worshipper - large # of imperial shrine donations/blessings
devote tribunal worshipper - large # of tribunal shrine donations/blessings
devote daedra worshipper - large # of daedra quests completed
multifaceted worshipper - collect all three worshipper badges
"I stole from the museum!" - stole an artifact from the museum
Gaenor Murderer - kill gaenor's first form
Gaenor Slayer - kill gaenor's second form
Dancer's Friend - large number of visits to the house of earthly delights
Drinketh the Bittercup - use the bittercup for yourself
Bad Actor - fail all the lines in the play in Mournhold
World's Worst Courier - for taking longer than a year to deliver the package to Caius Cosades

dunno if most of those can be detected, but would be pretty entertaining.

Will it be possible to earn all the badges or will it be like you can only get this badge OR that badge?

Some good badge ideas!

I have a favor to ask of anyone willing to help. Many of the things that we would like to have badges for can be detected by journal entries. For example, the Daedra cult quests. It takes a lot of time to find the correct journal entries. It would be a huge help if you could find those journal indexes for me for the proposed badges. It will really help speed things up for me. I've already found them for the 3 main quests.

All badges can be obtained so long as you can get them in the game...for example with an unmodded game you can't earn the badge for being the leader of all three Great Houses.

What exactly are the Points? How do you earn points, and how do you tell how many you have?
The only place they seem to be shown is on the Leader Board, which only shows three characters.

Also, I'm the Factor in the East Empire Company now, but it doesn't show my rank anymore.
In case you need the journal entries for being named Factor: CO_13a, 60 or CO_13, 70 (depending on who you work for)

edit: My gold amount is way off too. I thought that was working now?

for stats, can bounty, and largest recorded bounty be a part perhaps? good bragging rights for thieves and murderers i suppose. i wonder if arrests, bounties paid, and time served can somehow be harvested too.

another badge:

I never realized the UESP had journal indexes. That's very nice to know. Thanks. :hehe:

The points are a secret, or at least the exact mechanics are. Basically I assigned a point value to each badge, from 1 to 5. The point value depends upon the difficulty and unlikelihood of attaining that badge. However, right now most of the points are arbitrary values I assigned for testing. Those that have been uploaded in the past week most likely have the correct points assigned....at least insofar as I have configured.

You really only see three? There should be five, I've always seen no less than five.

Pluto, could I ask you again to send me your _data.cne file? I want to compare it with the online contents.

Bounty does display, as does a total bounty accrued over time. Not sure if I will record maximum bounty, I'll consider it. Times in jail is recorded.

I sorted out the issue with the EE Company Factor rank. It only has 9 ranks instead of the 10 of most other factions. Apparently the PCGetRank function skips the value of 8 and goes right from 7 to 9 for that rank. Stupid engine.

Anyway, wow, fligerty! You made Morrowind work online in a way, it was thought as impossible mission only recently. Soon enough, you'll let us play online!

Great work Fligerty, you really share grand work with us! Keep up. :)

Pluto, nevermind about sending me that. I found the cause, it was a bug in the esp. Expect a new esp within an hour or so; this one will actually show enemies, correct gold amount, and I did institute a "high bounty" stat.

New esp available. Modified some of the "always-running" scripts, so it may require a clean game without previous versions. The new data that I added today won't display online yet, I'll work on that tonight.

I anticipate one more major revision including the final extended data before we move on to the BETA stage. Note that when we begin the next round of testing I will be clearing out the database to start fresh.

Edit: I intend to put some screenshots for those non-testers to see what we've been talking about later tonight.
