Morrowind Birthday Bash -- Modding Tourney

May 1, 2002....a day that will live on in Elder Scrolls history! For on this day, we were given The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

The 10th anniversary of the original release of Morrowind (and the Construction Set even!) is coming quickly. At http://www.fliggerty.com/ we are not going to sit idly and let this momentous occasion pass by unheeded. In fact, we have a slew of events planned!

You are hereby cordially invited to join our celebrations by entering the Morrowind Modding Tourney!

This competition will feature two primary categories: individual and collaboration. Within each of these categories, there are 9 sub-categories:
  • Weapons
  • Armor
  • Clothing
  • World editing
  • Quests/Dialogue
  • Companions
  • Scripting
  • Modeling/Texturing
  • Humor

Oh, and don't worry if your submission doesn't fit cleanly inside one specific category...we'll figure it out!

Each sub-category will have a "Best Of" winner, and one final grand prize will be awarded. We are still collecting the prizes, so there isn't a lot to say about them yet. But we will assure you of one thing: a typical Morrowind fan will love them all! We are working on something very special for the grand prize, and will announce it here as soon as it is finalized.

Now, this is going to be done quite a bit differently from the past GHF modding invitationals. Please note the following major differences:
  • ANYBODY may enter. It doesn't matter how many other mods you've released in the past, how many total downloads your mods have had, or anything else. If you are a human being who has changed Morrowind in any way, shape, or form...you can enter.
  • You may enter current WIPs, even if you have announced them publicly. The only limitation we have on the mods themselves (besides the categories) is that they cannot already be released by the deadline.
  • Staff of GHF and affiliate sites may enter; however staff submissions will be judged separately in a single category altogether.
The submission deadline will be April 16th, 2012. Details on how to enter a submission will be posted soon.

i'm in. but i'm not sure what category landscaping would be.?

and what counts as a "collaboration" would using resources by current modders count? or do individual entries have to be solely individually made?

Darn, and here I was thinking that my Imperial Wayshrine would take a category hands down.

I think we could sort it out. We had a bit of trouble getting categories up there, so I'm sure we can add that in.

Collaboration means working together with another modder. Use of resources is fine as long as credit is given where it is due and if that isn't the sole purpose of the mod.

It depends on what the animation is for

The winners in each category will be picked by anonymous judges of our choosing. Don't worry, we will be very selective in choosing judges, and will make sure all mods are fairly judged.

I′m looking forward to seeing the results of this

But:

Aren′t 18 categories a bit much for a 10 year old game? I really can′t imagine you′ll even get one entry for each category to be honest and even if you get 2 or 3 per category, contests with that little competition are a bit weird imo

Well this community has more people than you might imagine. :) The only downside is the fact that CK just came out and many people will play with Skyrim atm :P

What Chaka said. We've hosted these competitons before with great success. Modders have kept Morrowind alive and thriving for 10 years, so there is quite a community here. If the entries are spread that thin, we will probably end up combining categories... somehow :D

I would say modeling or scripting since you change NPC's pose actions.

An NPC? Some visual effects? Any model which I may or maynot have created myself? (ie. not the focus of the entry)

I couldn't disagree more.

We'll work it in there, don't worry. We won't let any submission be categorized incorrectly. I think the judges can decide whether or not it needs a different category.

What about "gameplay balance" as a category?

Gameplay balance, as in difficulty? Or was there something else you had in mind?

You may enter current WIPs, even if you have announced them publicly. The only limitation we have on the mods themselves (besides the categories) is that they cannot already be released by the deadline.

I was so hoping that GHF would do this again - am confused though by the limitation

Maid in Morrowind will be ready for beta release soon - and I would like to enter that for the companion, clothing, scripting, quests/dialogue categories as this will be my current pinacle of achieving all those things

Are you saying the mod can't be illegible for judging if it is released before the deadline?

Hmm... I suppose I could enter Greater Addamasartus, just for the hell of it. It's a dungeon, or rather a pretty severe alteration of an existing dungeon. I can definitely have it finished by April.

Rule changes. Mods that edit the settings of items, spells, enchantments, races, birthsigns, etc.
