GHF's Top 100 Favorite Morrowind Mods of All Time

Post » Wed Jun 15, 2011 3:31 am

With the upcoming release of the next game in The Elder Scrolls series, we have turned our thoughts to reflections of what it is we love so much about these games. For most of the staff at Great House Fliggerty, we first played Morrowind, and fell in love with it. And of course the reason we are all here is due to our passion for Morrowind mods!

We have compiled a list of our 100 most favorite Morrowind mods of all time! These are the gems that we have played, replayed, developed, watched and participated in WIP threads, etc. Many of them are mods that we will add to every game we play, though some are ones that we've played once and always remember. Whatever the case may be, these are our favorites.

We are first presenting you with mods 100-80, in no particular order. We compiled our list by first presenting our top 10 personal favorites, and expanding from there. The top 20 are ones that were chosen by multiple staff members, or otherwise endorsed repeatedly as we worked on this list.

Over the next 20 days we will be presenting 20-1, one each day!

So what mods would you put in your top 100?

Edit: I really want to emphasize here that this list is not authoritative in any way, and isn't exactly an endorsemant to run out and grab all of these. We are not stating they are all compatible; in fact many of these simply will not play well together. These are the mods that we have most enjoyed, and very fondly remember. So please take this entire list with a grain of salt.

I am very honored (and a bit surprised, to be honest) to see my mod come in at #95 :D
A Thank-You goes out to everyone in the community for enjoying it. :foodndrink:

I've been working on a "Pluto-Recommends-Mod-List" for awhile now... this is a good incentive for to me finish it and get it posted on GHF.

edit: do you think the Bethesda Blog might feature the GHF list, when it is all done?

What would be cool is a list telling which of the 100 are compatible with each other.

Well i guess we all have different tastes and I suspect what you are showing here is not necessarily mods that are recommended in a load order but just ones which have made a difference in playing Morrowind

here are the mods which made the biggest impact for me in Morrowind

1. MCP - I'm so grateful Hrnchamd - especially when you instituted the rain fix I suggested
2. MGE - The sole reason I bought a new computer.
3. Vurt - ok so he's not a mod but I nearly cried when i saw his grass and shrooms in Morrowind so anything by Vurt has moved me
4. Louis Beauty shop by Ren - this really opened my eyes to beautiful characters - my innocent Breton Mage with the big brown eyes and long black hair who unsurprisingly was called Illuminiel
5. Better Bodies - they were simply better
6. Better Clothes - again simply better
7. Qarl's Bottle replacer - I just loved the bottles
8. Clothiers of Vvardenfell - introduced me to Badkarma's amazing male clothes, Ladyrae's wake me up colours and Korana's stunning Tavern (shame it gave me landscape tears)
9. Bath Shoppe - I still love it
10.The Tylwth - Korana gave me wings and new vision though visiting the tree always gave me CTD
11.Harborgolfer - who released many one off faces on this forum - they inspired me to go do my own faces
12. Ice's Robes - I used this for years - loved it
13. Asgard by Grumpy - taught me to think big and differently when it comes to designing homes
14. LGNPC - Seyda Neen - I love the whole series but as this began the series it has a special place of affection from me
15. Nioliv's clothing meshes - what a fantastic resource
16. Phijama - again numerous mods - his bows were works of art
17. Hilyga - Plangkye brought a whole new feel to my game and made me want to create stories around her clothes
18. Darknut - I think I use all your replacers Darknut - creatures, armours whatever
19. AOF - replacers again - completely changed Vivec for me
20. Bobs Armoury - spent hours in the armory trying on different combinations of clothes
21. Jeremy McQuinn - loved all his armour retextures especially the jet black one
22. Dodge by Aragon - pre-MCP this was important for unarmoured
23. COM - thanks Emma
24. Princess_Stomper - too many house mods to mention but I still recall the party in Suran - I drank so much mazte that night
25. Atmospheric Sound effects
26. Wrye mash - how can i play without this?

Maybe I'll stop here - all these mods made a big difference to my game experience though

Well said, Illuminiel.
I bet almost everyone can agree with that.
1. MCP - I'm so grateful Hrnchamd - especially when you instituted the rain fix I suggested

3. Vurt - ok so he's not a mod but I nearly cried when i saw his grass and shrooms in Morrowind so anything by Vurt has moved me

14. LGNPC

especially these three ;)

AND, three words... Darknut, Darknut, Darknut.

So what mods would you put in your top 100?

I don't actually play the game all that much, but when I used to graphical mods were always my favorites. Now even if I don't really play there are mods that have been a huge influence for me as a modder, and these I would include in my "top 100":

- Ren's beauty shop : this is probably the single most influencial hair mod to ever grace Morrowind, imo, it has been very influential over my work
- Kagz' mods (hard to pick one): these mods were so original and colorful, and they played a huge part in me getting into modding.
- Sorcha Ravenlock's face mods: the last ones she released were pure jewels.
- Cait's animals, especially her squirrels. They made me want to make creatures for morrowind :)
- Korana's clothes and faces: artistically they are very impressive
- also Harborgolfer's faces
- E-Bride/Sinblood's armors.
- Better Bodies!! Without this mod I wouldn't have made any armor or clothing for this game!
I probably forgot a few but these are roughly the mods and the artists that were the most influential on my modding. Thanks to all who made them :)

Here are mods that, even though they may not have had a huge impact on my modding activities, I always use when I'm testing, because they are just very helpful to take beautiful screenshots:
- MGE. Obviously.
- MCP, like Illuminiel I am very grateful
- Vurt's trees, they really are the best of their kind in my opinion!
- Telesphoros' head replacer, simple yet very efficient
- Better Clothes.
Again I'm probably forgetting a few...

So yeah, these are the mods I consider to be gems. Now there are artists who are still around whose creations I deeply admire, but they haven't had as much influence over me as the works that I listed, which are mostly from the 2005/2006 era.

Well , i like and use many of the great mods already named but my nominations are for mods i like and quite probably wont feature on GHF 100 at all.

In no particular order.

1. Roman city of Theopolis - Has everything wrong with it but is packed with resources and a great place for ideas and inspiration, a prime candidate for a redux imo.

2. Seedy Almexia District. - A superb atmospheric base setting, good potential for making something different.

3. Ashes of the Apocalypse - Another great atmospheric mod but in post apocalyptic base setting, great potential for making mods that are out of the ordinary.

4. The Enchanted Editor. Not a mod a s such but a valuable tool.

5. The Wilderness, needs more thought in where spawn points are placed , nominated because it is the biggest showcase for Caits animals.

6. The Glory Road 2, the full mod was never released, nominated for the spin off mods that were ie Kats castle , Victorian experience etc.

7. War Galleon - Shens' !8th century Frigate is one of the best models i have so far seen in Morrowind.

8. Eyes - puts a little much needed life into NPC's

9. Dragon Blade - My favourite Phijama mod.

10. Castle Vianden - a true labour of love.

Interesting. I'm expecting to see Julan in the top 15 at least. And Galsiah's Character Development. And I'd put Tamriel Rebuilt on there too somewhere. Even though it's not finished, it's damn impressive. MGE and MCP obviously. LGNPC. And 'Vurts tree and grass mods', if you can count that as one. :D

Also listworthy are Vvardenfell Visages (the pluginless head replacer), Hold It, Illuminated Order, The Lighting Mod, NOM, Abots water life, guars, where are all the birds going...

#20 http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6581 by Qebehsenuf

Re-designs the original beginning of the game.

You start as always on the prison ship headed for Seyda Neen, this modification changes many features to seperate it from the default.

The list of features include:

- The prison boat now contains numerous prisoners and their cells. They will heckle you as you pass by using sound files from the game.

- Removal of tutorial message boxes.

- The time is set to early morning and the weather is set to Thunder. Guards have been placed on the dock as well as on the ship, and clothed appropriately for the weather.

- The census and Excise building now includes numerous other prisoners being released into the world. The building has also been re-designed to appear more 'lived in'.

- Scripted events: To make the experience more memorable and involving.

- Over 80 NPC's used in total, on the prison ship, dock and within the census and excise building. Removed and enabled based on certain situations.

I believe that I had the privilege of being the very first person not involved in the development of this mod to play it. I was a PES database admin at the time, and it was my task to review it before posting. I have to say that I was simply stunned! The level of detail in this mod was inexplicable. "Immersive" is the only word that could have been used in the title; at no point in time did I feel as if I was working on generating a character prior to playing a game. The game had already begun, and it was far harsher and grittier than I ever expected!

I have a question regarding mods like H.E.L.L.U.V.A. and Fliggerty's Armor Project - do they work with BTB's game improvements?

Yeah, they should work fine. Those mods add armors, they don't affect existing ones like BTB does. I will suggest that you use H.E.L.L.U.V.A. instead of FAP though. I consider Sandman101's work to be the next step in evolution from mine.

Tamriel Rebuilt has got to make the top five, at least. And number one? Surely it's MGE, that mod has made an enormous visual/functional impact to Morrowind.

We chose to limit this list specifically to mods; so we are not including applications such as MGE, MWSE, Wrye Mash, MCP, etc.

Fliggerty, I think Browncoat was asking more along the lines of do they work *well* together. Because BTB tries to make the game harder, but HELLUVA could unbalance it with super armors. I dunno the answer, as I haven't used HELLUVA in a while, but I too would love to know if it could be used without unbalancing everything... I also have to agree with Immersive Chargen. I was also stunned when I tried that. just fantastic :D

Well it hard to think about best of the best so i wont make an numerical list

-Better Bodies(its totaly impossible to not install it ;p)
-Better Heads (first head replacer i used and still after all these years im haning to it)
-Wizards Islands(Damn probably best quest mod for MW i've ever seen, with great content, it was an fps killer by the time it was released, also it had snow before bloodmoon)
-Carnithus Armamentarium(a true classic of armor shop mods)
-Reign of Fire(it pushed quality of dragon mods into overdrive, also damn bugs! :) )
-abots water life(MAN DA HARPOONS!)
-also all mods from madmax, the precursor of driving/riding scripts(Ultimate Galleon, Pegas Horse Ranch, Fishing Academy, Flying Carpet)
-Deaths Doorstep+addon (lots of good stuff here, along with spooky ghost town)
-Ultimate Knight's Shop (good complication of good armors)
-Also i would to include out of respect, those two german TC's Arkwent and Myar Aranath, because i dont reacall any other really good finished TC's for MW
-Tamriel Rebuild, still we yet to see the best of it, but even in those two maps TR team showed us great quality, i just hope my grandchildren will see the day morrowind province will be finished
Well i wanted to list connary's mods on the list but meh, he is our voldemort here, thus we cant speek of him

A mod is a modification, and MGE makes several modifications to the game. I suppose you mean plugin-based mods, or non-.exe mods. I'm not trying to start an argument here, I just want to show the above mentioned mods some love! :)

Actually in this context, it could be short for module. I'm not trying to start an argument here, I just want to show that I am cool
