Ghosts an Ghouls

Post » Thu Dec 23, 2010 6:19 pm

I for one, have always felt like the ghosts in TES aren't very....erm, ghostly. The main reason for this being that they're fully visible. I think that they should pose much more of a challenge, I don't want them to be OP or anything but I feel like at least a Detect Life effect should be required to see more of them than a faded and barely noticeable face. They should also appear a bit more human in form, the ghosts from OB looked more like some monkey with a permanent invisibility spell who got the upper half of his body covered in flour. Also, I feel like some ghosts should merely be there for a scare factor. Say you walk into a house with no apparent owner in the wilderness and decide to stick around for awhile, eventually, you would start hearing faint voices, then something in the background might start hovering around a bit, and if you don't leave after awhile the spirit would become violent, throwing things at you, screaming, and eventually making itself somewhat more visible to begin combat. A ghost of that sort should be much more powerful than your typical one, and at low levels should be near impossible to defeat. Afterward, sense you likely weren't able to defeat it, you would flee and some local would speak to you about the house explaining its history and what not. This might start a quest and it might not.

But anyways, tell me your opinions on this.

Did Oblivion have ghosts? I thought they were wraiths. I guess they are the same thing.

I hope ghosts aren't the same like in Oblivion and Morrowind. They always glitched when dieing! :ahhh:

Depended on your level. From level one up they progressed like this: Ghost, Ancient Ghost, Faded Wraith, Wraith, Gloom Wraith.

I agree! Ghosts are shockingly bad in Oblivion... which is a shame, because I felt they did the zombies really well.

They should have less ghosts in Skyrim, but require some kind of spell that sharpens senses to make them detectable.

Here's an idea of how ghosts in Skyrim will look like:

Those are good ideas. I'd love it if the ghosts would tell you stuff and cheapshot you. You should be able to hit them with a weapon of appropriate material, but they could be throwing things at you from far away like you said or sprint attacking you through the walls where you can't chase them. Perhaps you could have a ward you could buy from the mages guild so that within fifteen feet of the ward after you place it you can see the ghost.

From what we can see with the ice wraiths and that alleged concept art of a vampire, Skyrim seems to be going with a more "primal" and edgy style with its enemies. Hopefully we'll have some interesting designs with ghosts, and not just some cloudy, semi-transparent old people like they were in Oblivion. I for one loved the skeletal appearance that Ancestral Ghosts had in Morrowind. The first time I entered a tomb, you have no idea how badly http://uesp.net/wiki/File:MWCreature-AncestorGhost.jpg surprised me.

It's the image that Danger Dan linked - we still don't know what it is exactly, but some of us assume them to be vampires, not ordinary undead.

You know what .... Ghost should be fully invisible And you can only see them with Detect Life or Night-Eye

Bethesda seems to like their conceptions of ghosts. Floating, fully visible, and not scary unless you don't see them coming. As long as they aren't like Oblivion's ghosts.
