What do you mean 'stopped working'? As in you can no longer equip it, or that it doesn't do it's job of disguising you from Ferals?

Because if it's that it doesn't work as a disguise, you can't let the ferals see you put it on. If they've seen you and turn hostile, putting the mask on won't turn them away. Atleast in my experience.

It's also useless if you decide to take a potshot at a ghoul while wearing the mask.

Are you playing a very hard mode? Maybe NPC's have more intelligence in very hard mode? Just a theory.

Switch to very hard. It's noticeably much more fun.

The only thing difficulty changes is XP gained and hit points of enemies.

maybe putting it in a locker, putting on different clothes, or different combinations and then putting it back on again?

This is probably the best fix I can think up too. Just muck about with it, throw it around your house, pick it up, store it, throw it out the window, pick it back up, make a follower wear it, take it back, damage it all the way, repair it all the way. Just mess with it as much as humanly possible, that might debug the thing.

Also, you might wanna install whatever latest patch is out there, or whatever, make sure it isn't your console/PC's fault.

Then why worry about it? Ghouls should be easy to take out at that level. Even at Hard they aren't all that difficult, until you start running into Reavers.

The effect is script driven and mods faction allies.

Unequipping and reequipping should reset the effect, if in a place, or in stealth mode, where one cannot be detected by ferals.

It's time to man up and face your fears. Come up with good strategies against those reavers. I've found Paralyzing Palm and flamers to be especially effective. Oh, and Nuka Grenades.

Unfortunately the function that clears the player crime flag is in a quest script: MS12Fin.

Did you acquire the mask the normal way and complete the quest, or did you use some other means?

PC or console?

Oh my God! I never even considered Paralyzing Palm on those Reavers. Thank you for the tactile suggestion. I usually freak out and blind fire while running backwards. (I hate Reavers on very hard mode but I'm too legit to turn it to very easy when I find one) I never even would have considered hitting them completely unarmed had it not been for you.
