Ghoulification in Fallout 4?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 3:49 am

Makes sense, TES fans generally want more TES in their Fallout

There's possibly an argument for radiation, if one is prepared to bend lore to their will. But why would we be exposed to or aware of F.E.V?
Of which is classified technology, surreptitiously created by west-tech?
If there's F.E.V in Fallout 4 we may as well take an axe to the lore. This is before we discuss just how sequatious a trope F.E.V is becoming...

Vampirism [in TES] is ~curable; ghoulification ... against all sanity they'd make that curable too. :sadvaultboy:
I would have said that Fallout treated that more [almost] as a racial condition; like Argonians in TES. I would not expect them to ever impose racial hatred on the player for something that was not possible for them to change.

I've not played Dawnguard; but I would have been highly doubtful that they would ever impose hatred on the PC, because in their idea of a game, the player IS the PC, and that's treating the player hatefully. That's not something I would have believed they would risk.

Ghouls implemented fitting to the Fallout series, would get kicked out of shops, and chased from some towns at weapon point; they would get betrayed, and harassed. A ghouls life would be miserable except in certain settlements. It should require a re-think akin to the Nosferatu in Bloodlines, and I can't see them implementing an additional path through the game that way.

*On the whole it would not be generally fun for ~enough of their players.

So I would only expect it as a TES style race (), or a curable disease ().

Would be interesting. If they gave us the "option" to become a ghoul in Fallout 4 I'd try it out for sure.

Well, if they did make it so the PC could be cured it better involve an epic quest saving a genius robo-brain from a heavily armed group of zealot assassins in control of the only cure(or something like that). I think they could make it interesting somehow.

Hmm. Maybe ghoulification could be healed if you could get a stem cell injection or something, which could replace the contaminated tissue.

I dunno... Ghouls are supposedly in a constant state of accelerated decay ~and regeneration.

Itd be great. But not for cannon.
Theres something about having nothing - but yourself - in a post apocolyptic wasteland
Fallout 4 gives me a
"Im exactly the same man i was 200 years ago. Same face, same thoughts and its basically like ive been asleep for the past 200 years. But ive lost everything"
Kinda vibe.
Having "ive lost everything and oneday ill even loose myself turning feral" doesn't cut it for me with this kind of storyline

P L U S
with the radiation system, having your max health deteriorate as you gain radiation, it looks more likely youll just die or be stupidly encumbered by the effects of itd.. Be rather weird hitting 0 health and all of a sudden "OOP LOL UR ALIVE"

Don't forget when you ghoul, radiation actually heals you.

And turning Feral is sort of a "losing your mind" situation.

In Vampire: The Masquerade, as an example, it talks of The Beast, the animal nature of the affliction living inside you. All Vampires...or at least most of them...seek to overcome that side of them by hanging on to their humanity. Those who give in to the best, become feral and animalistic, losing all concept of consequence and right and wrong, only satiating desire. That, I feel, is what a feral ghoul is. Normal Ghouls cling to their humanity, because, well at that moment, it's what they got.

A manageable condition, and many Ghouls have lived long happy lives. Some have even integrated into society with open minded folk. A lonesome road, but it's one that is not impossible to travel.

Stem cells are able to become any kind of tissue. If you injected them into a body part which was hurt, your body would form the cells you needed to become healthy again.

Me too! Although, I think I would rather the possibility of becoming a ghoul be based on random chance while being exposed to radiation. Maybe a 5% chance of becoming a ghoul, or a 5% chance an arm grows out of your head, lol... something like that.

Come to think of it, I think it would be excellent DLC content, if they will be pushing for it...

Given the circumstances of current technology in the universe, I can see some mad genius come along, -years later-, and succeed in curing ghoulification. That's the nature of technology in general though. What was considered impossible hundreds of years ago is now elementary today. Reflect this into FO and you've got the same thing going on.

It's not supposed to be curable.
Of course it's possible to invent that it can be cured; but then you are damaging the setting. [But... what's new about that?]

That's a whole lot of assumptions that can't actully be proven until they try it. Morrowind and Oblivion handled racial tension well.

John what does being a ATES fan have anything to do with the topic?

It has nothing to do with the thread, it was a homogenization of a strawman and ad hominem attempt, after he himself was calling out another person for strawmans in another thread

There are times when that is not a positive feature. Just because one can imagine Darth Vader could have embedded a hidden personality change in C-3PO, that he could call on to make the droid betray the rebels and murder them one by one, or with mass poisoning; doesn't mean they should have added that.
Just because one can imagine Gandalf asking the Eagles to fly Frodo and Sam to Mount Doom to drop the ring in it ~doesn't improve the story.

Ghouls are the relic/reminder of the great war.

No thanks. Ghoulification ought to be permanent.

Ghoulification, if ever implemented, ought to close off certain quests and locations to the player, but also open up new avenues of play that would otherwise be closed off to us. Certainly the main quest should not be affected by this condition, but some of the (nonessential) side quests ought to have that restriction.

"Ghoulifornication"

Psychic spies from China Try to steal your mind's elation Little girls from Sweden Dream of silver screen quotations And if you want these kind of dreams It's Ghoulifornication

It's the edge of the world And all of western civilization The sun may rise in the East At least it settles in the final location It's understood that Hollywood Sells Ghoulifonication

Pay your surgeon very well To break the spell of aging Celebrity skin is this your chin Or is that war your waging

[Chorus:] First born unicorn Hard core soft porm Dream of Ghoulifonication Dream of Ghoulifonication

Marry me girl be my fairy to the world Be my very own constellation A teenage bride with a baby inside Getting high on information And buy me a star on the boulevard It's Ghoulifonication

Space may be the final frontier But it's made in a Hollywood basemant Cobain can you hear the spheres Singing songs off station to station And Alderon's not far away It's Ghoulifornication

Born and raised by those who praise Control of population everybody's been there and I don't mean on vacation

[Chorus]

Destruction leads to a very rough road But it also breeds creation And earthquakes are to a girl's guitar They're just another good vibration And tidal waves couldn't save the world From Ghoulifornication

Pay your surgeon very well To break the spell of aging Sicker than the rest There is no test But this is what you're craving

[Chorus]

The lyrics may be off

But the ghouls remember it, and before it, and are visibly scarred by it. It is a mistake to implement ghoul PCs; more of one to trivialize it with a cure.

I don't foresee ghouls becoming a playable option anyways. But, beside that, not all ghouls are pre-war.
