Ghoulification in Fallout 4?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:14 am

I noticed this: http://i.imgur.com/h7UBIyd.pngon the updated website. Anyone think ghoulification may be a feature in Fallout 4?

It would be an interesting twist to game play that's for sure.

I think it would be interesting if they treated ghoulification a bit like Vampirisim in TES. Perhaps when your radiation poisoning gets to the point you are about to die from it, have the game "roll a dice" and instead of death you get ghoulified! Could open up some gameplay possibilities for those who would like to try it and to those who wouldn't, well you would normally die any way so that either means reloading a save, starting a new character if you are the dead is dead type, or being very careful about careful monitoring your rad levels. Only thing about this though, there would be a lot of reloading for those who are trying to become ghouls unless the chance is pretty high, say 1 in 4 deaths by radiation produce ghoulification.

I don't. Because it would be both unfun and a retcon of stupid proportions.

i like this but if your a ghoul, radiation will heal u instead of kill u and it will make dying of radiation impossi-oh wait you'll become feral and people will try and kill u.

goulification should only change your face and make your charisma go down and give you the perk where radiation heals crippled limbs.

Doubtful, I think its just another bit of flavour stuff, a wink to the fallout fans, consider the work that come with making ghoulification work as a game mechanic.

Only if they change all dialogues so that the people around you see that you are a ghoul... If they still thread you as human... no.

Maybe one day, but not for F4. That bit of art has no significance on the game itself I would imagine, as I remember at least Fallout 3 containing an extremely similar pieces of art in its manual, to add flavour.

That art is straight out of the old manual if I recall.

What's the retcon? I thought ghouls were made from intense radiation exposure. Surely there are areas where that kind of radiation still exists.

He may be speaking of the diea that ghouls are partially caused by FEV, which was disproven in the Fallout bibles and Fallout 3.

Or the idea that ghoulficiation requires being exposed to radiation over a very long period of time, and is a very slow change, which was disproven in both Fallout 3 and NV.

I've come to the conclusion that Fallout canon is like a salad bar. Each person picks and chooses which source they want to be canon, about some particular topic, based on their own preference.

A month back I had an idea of how Ghoulification would word, but had a set amount of pre-requisites...Like maintaining a certain level of rads for a certain amount of time, things like that...

Then you black out, and wake up like...a week later in the middle of a rad zone, by a Ghoul.

"Hey...You're shaking...Are you alright? Come on, wake up..." (Little nod to Jiub from Morrowind)

You wake up next to a Ghoul. "There you are...Still got all your chowder upstairs...Hmm...Yer not feral...Good good...Well, the bad news is, you look like [censored]. Good news...It's manageable..."

That image suggests to me that like the previous games your stats will decrease the higher the level of radiation sickness is. It would be kind of cool if you could turn into a ghoul though.

Fallout Bible doesn't disprove it, Avellone just states it isn't his idea of how it works, not everything the man says is 100% lore.

Fallout 3 didn't disprove it and it's easy to explain that FEV still remains in people from birth but once activated by a large radioactive level in some people causes ghoulifacation.

Doubt it. When I played Skyrim and first turned into a Vampire, I was like "Oh, hey cool, I can now hickie anyone I want and no one will get mad at me for doing it!" Than after awhile, I was like "Man... I gotta hickie people almost everyday too stay normal! And the sun is a b***h..." and after that, I wanted to return to being a normal human.

I think I'll feel the same way about being a ghoul... it'll be cool and fun at first, but after awhile, I'll be like "[censored] you!" and either reload to a previous save or just start a new character if I was dumb enough not too keep at least one save before being turned. Remember, there is no cure for ghoulism, and there shouldn't really be any cure for it.

Well, you can't really CURE that...I mean, it's not like your decrepid flesh just...fills back out.

Id love to play as a Ghoul. However I dont think that will be possible in FO4, for more reasons than I can count but primarily I think a lot of questlines could be voided.

IF It was possible, Id love to see If you would slowly degenerate into a Feral. Remember they arnt sure why Ghouls are what they are, and then how some become Feral. It just happens. Of course it would be game over if you did become a Feral but it would be an interesting degeneration.

That's actually a really good point that I hadn't considered about Ghoulification not having a cure. In the TES series you could always cure Vampirism if you didn't want to remain so.

You can cure it in TES? ....thats... a bit crap

Generally to cure a vampire you need to cut off their head, burn them in sunlight , shove them into a running river, or stake them. THat cures them.

You can cure Vampirism and Lycanthropy through quest lines that end in a ritual.

Edit: Sorry, I should say that's for Skyrim.

Yep, mostly due to Molag Bal releasing you from it but I think it was different in Skyrim.

*edit* no scratch that, it was different in morrowind, oblivion and Skyrim. Only Morrowind was about Bal releasing you.

So, how about all the Pre-war Ghouls you can see on occasion? Like, say, Desmond, Jason Bright, Dean Domino, Carol, Michael Masters, and all the Chinese Remnants at Mama Dolce's? Were they born with the FEV, or did the nuclear firestorm release clouds of FEV into the atmosphere?

Ah, another stupidity Fallout 3 came up with. It used to take a bit longer to become a ghoul before that game came and broke the rules to make a shocking plot twist.
