[Request/Idea] Giant Radioactive Spiders

Post » Wed Sep 29, 2010 1:33 pm

I remember making a request like that back for FO3 and not much ever happened, but now with New Vegas, I think I should try it again. Seeing how you have a large desert and that a lot of Tarantulas live in Nevada and other bordering areas, it would be logical that after the bombs fell, they would have been mutated and grown in size just like Roaches, Scorpions and other insects. So, would it not be possible to make a mod that adds Spiders into the game in various sizes that hunt other insects and the player? I think that would be really cool to see in New Vegas.

Well, that could work, but I actually thought on Spiders ala "Eight Legged Freaks" or the old 50s movie "Tarantula". The animation video is really nice, but I am not sure how easy/hard it will be to implement something like that into New Vegas.

Thanks for the links btw. Was not aware of the Tooth Floater.

True procedural animations for spider like creatures are basically impossible in this engine... if you invest enough time maybe you could make something similar but it's not really worth it.

Ah that svcks. But I saw Spiders for Oblivion, at least models of them existed and they where even animated, so if its not possible, how did the modder did it in Oblivion that uses the same engine?

I said procedural animation, not spiders. Spider-like creatures can be certainly added but they won't move as realistically as in the video old_andy posted. Head over to Martigen's Mutant Mod (basically it's a mod that will adds all kinds of critters to NV) thread and post your suggestion. Keep in mind that Martigen doesn't do mesh work though (at least I think he doesn't). You could ask Sloth for the models since she likes spiders (she created a spider mesh for OB IIRC) but I'm not to sure she mods for NV.

Ahh okay so Spiders can be added then. Well, I have not a problem if they wont have the exact animation required as long as they work properly in the Fallout World. I think spiders would be a nice addition to New Vegas. So yeah I am going to head over to the MMM thread and post my suggestion there.

Wouldn't look any less crap than Radscorpions or Giant Ants. Having said that, it's still going to require an extremely talented modeler to make anything even remotely believable.

The problem is they are going to move in the same crappy way that everything else with more than 2 legs does in Fallout. Every time they encounter a change in elevation or try and walk over any kind of rock or object they are going to clip through the ground and start walking at funny angles, but then that's what the original models do so I don't think adding another one is going to make the game look any worse than it already does.

+1 to this request. I responded over in the MMM thread as well. I would love to see a giant tarantula.

FO Wiki says Cazadors are based on Tarantula Hawk wasps, which feed their young on tarantulas.
