Giant Spiders

Post » Thu Oct 21, 2010 3:34 pm

I was so happy playing Morrowind and Oblivion, two RPGs who didn't have giant spiders. Many RPGs have them, and sadly I have arachnophobia. I was having loads of fun with Dark MEssiah, until chapter 5, where all the giant spiders were crawling from the big tunnel, and unfortunately, I couldn't play any longer. I was wondering if I am the only one who has this? I mean, giant spiders aren't a necessity...

I guess someone can mod them out of the PC version.

And the one shown is so enormous and gross, too... you have my sympathy! Hopefully it's avoidable.

I created one of the mods for Oblivion that featured regular giant spiders (a modified version of the spider daedra) and you wouldn't believe how many requests I got to just remove the spiders! It got so bad that I actually had to put the instructions for removing them in the Read Me, I am dead serious. I have a fear for spiders but not in the virtual worlds lol. If nothing else I am sure someone can mod them out for you if you play on PC! ;)

Haha it wouldn't have to do anything. I would kill myself trying to get away from it anyways!

Don't get me wrong I don't hate spiders, they're creatures who deserve to live on this planet too, but giant spiders/tarantulas really scare me, I cannot stand them.

That's just me. If it was a small spider, I wouldn't really mind, but did you see how huge the spider was in the picture??

I hate spiders also and esp. giants spiders. Ever watched the movie 8 legged freaks? That was the worst.

I hate seeing them but not to the extent that I wouldn't play a game that had them. and I dont see how spider Deadra don't count, they're the same thing

Spider deadra are a fictional sort of giant spider. The giant spider in the picture is a giant tarantula....

I understand the fact but you can use this as a staging ground to fight your phobia. I mean I know a guy that is deathly afraid of reptiles (not even kidding) and he was apprehensive of Argonians at first but he eventually used Argonians to get over his fear of reptiles. This is not a joke, this is a real situation. So maybe this will allow you to get over your arachnophobia. The only time you should truly be afraid of spiders is in Tropical or Arid areas, that's why they become dangerous. Well that or if your in a dungeon in ES1:Arena or in Skyrim in some ruins.

I'm not afraid of spiders but one thing that did give me the creeps was when I played Twilight Princess and the giant tarantula boss in that game. Spooky real looking animations in the dark. *shudder*

I won't be playing the game until the CS is released so I can change them into something else and if there's no CS I'm never leaving the nearest city. I'll play a thief, merchant or beggar.

No, I won't face my fear and conquer it. I'm old. I play games to relax, not to have a heart attack. There's enough screaming and fainting involved when a teensy one of those things gets into my house. I have dents in my walls from smacking them with heavy objects.

I also hate spiders in games, but that has less to do with arachnophobia than with those horrible jumping spiders in Thief: TDP.

I hope they exhibit the full range of spider motion -- you know, climbing vertical surfaces, dropping down silently on threads, maybe even popping out of trapdoors. And webs, obv. And... *sigh* jumping.

Maybe Arkane will loan them some AI from Dark Messiah. God I hated spiders in that game. But in a good way.
