Giant Spiders?

Why are spiders such a big taboo?
Nobody's afraid of zombies, ghosts, worms, rats, scorpions, snakes, crabs, big burly men, women... ?

I know several people who are afraid of women, and with good reason.

Well firstly, it is not the most common fear. Last time I checked, fear of spiders was 9th. (behind: rejection, failure, death, intimacy, dark, heights, public speaking and flying.)

Secondly, you have to take into consideration that only a small percentage of arachnophobics are actually scared to the point where they cant play a game with a spider in it. Most of them are just very uneasy around real spiders.

Removing giant spiders would cater for a very small group of people so it is highly unlikely (nor recommended) that Bethesda would even consider it. Like I mentioned earlier, more people are afraid of heights. Do you want Skyrim to be flat? Didn't think so.

These spiders are not real, if you are severely arachnophobic, wait for someone to mod them out.

I would love to see a version of the game that caters to every single persons phobias and dislikes.

The entire game would just be a blank screen. And there are probably people afraid of that too.

I know I'd feel safer around women if I had a nice big daedric sword in one hand and magic fire ready to be cast in the other.

Yes, it would probably be impossible. Even a blank screen would stir up a phobia:

horror vacui: fear of blank spaces
cenophobia: fear of the empty

I myself prefer putting charm spells on both hands.

If you know what I mean.

This topic has been discussed ad nauseum.

Since I've said it so many times, I'll just keep it short. Phobias are a personal problem, and Bethesda is under no obligation to address them. If anyone has arachnophobia, I suggest that they seek therapy and stop asking for handouts.

The more I hate spiders in reality the more I feel like killing them in video games.
So my answer to the o.p. is yes, I welcome spiders wholeheartedly, and the spider in that screenshot looks amazing.
These fights are going to be epic.

I HATE spiders, but I look forward to burning the giant monstrosities with fire come November. :flamethrower:

I remember waking up before and having a spider hanging from the ceiling right above me coming down. Luckily I trained my cat to smoosh any spiders he sees creeping around into the floorboards. :toughninja:

I'm scared of Minecraft spiders, but I need to kill them to get String, so I can make a Bow (my favourite Weapon).//

I too am not fond of spiders. Even in games I shiver when facing a spider, but I am equipped with a weapon and magic of all sorts, I can bring that bugger down! Even if it means I'm going to run back and forth for a while, but actually, regardless of my phobia I find it amusing to counter my fear that way. Fighting my fear adds to the immersion in my opinion. :P I'd rather fight a spider than a giant bunny...
