Gifts4Kids

V1.21

By Povuholo

Download: http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9418

Inspired by Emma's excellent Children of Morrowind mod, and http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=952980.

Everyone who has played Fallout 3 has seen them: Little toy cars, nuka cola trucks, teddy bears, etc. Now maybe your character never grew up and likes to collect these things, but why not make someone else happy with it?

http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iamerik/stuff/?action=view¤t=Gifts4Kids_0001.flv (play in full screen to be able to read the dialogue)

Gifts4Kids allows you give a range of toys and other items to kids. This is what you can give to them:

  • Baseball gloves/balls
  • Baseball caps
  • Basketballs
  • Harmonicas
  • Grognak the Barbarian Comics
  • Lunch Boxes
  • Nuka Cola
  • Nuka Cola Trucks
  • Teddy Bears
  • Toy Cars

You can give a kid one gift a day. Gifts can be given to any kid in the game, no matter where they're from: Mods, DLCs, it doesn't matter. It should work for everyone. The dialogue was created using the original children voice files, which will allow this mod to merge seamlessly into your game. The lip-syncing is not always perfect, but close enough I think.

There is also some variety in the responses you get from the kids: If you give two kids the same gift, they don't always thank you the same way. Boys don't like teddy bears as much as girls do. But everyone loves Nuka-Cola Trucks! :vaultboy:

As of V1.1 you can get a small one time karma reward per child. Kids may also sometimes give you something small in return, like a simple food item or a bobby pin.

There's also a little extra thing for Bryan Wilks, but I'll leave that up to you to find.

Let me know what you think of it! :foodndrink:

Wow, it's done! *struggles to keep herself from posting a barrage of smileys*
I guess that means my break from Fallout is now officially over. Woohoo! :twirl:

Thank you so very much not only for making this mod, but also for making it as polished, elaborate and simply awesome as you did! :tops:

(And also many thanks for the PM. I've been straying back into the realms of Oblivion lately, because I wanted to wait for the release of your mod, before playing more Fallout and I surely would have missed the release.)

Thanks everyone! I may have a figured out a good way to add one time karma boosts per child. I'll have a look at it this weekend. :)

Been playing with the mod for nearly a week straight now. Everything seems to be hunky-dory.
Thanks again, man.

*Points to siggy*

My Oblivion mod is a lot more interesting than this one. :hehe:

I had a moment to test my idea for the karma boost and it seems to be working. :)

I just included Gifts4Kids in my new ambitious load order. I think I'll skip the update, 'cause I don't need the karma. Looking forward to making some kids smile!

I just noticed there isn't an option to give James Hargrave (Rivet City) a gift.

Is this a bug, or a feature?

Weird. I'll have a look.

How fast after starting the game did you talk to them? It takes a few seconds after the mod is activated for the topic to be added but otherwise the topic should be there. If it really doesn't show up, try the console command 'addtopic povpresent'.

It should work on all kids. I see two possible causes:

1. James Hargrave isn't a kid in your game somehow. (Unlikely)
2. When you talk to James you only get 'choices' to respond with, instead of a list of topics. In that case the gift topic won't show.

I haven't been back to Rivet City since I posted that message. I just fast traveled there with some toys, found James, and sure enough... the "You're pretty cool..." dialog option was there. I don't know what happened the first time. I wanted to give James and Bryan both BB Guns. Bryan took his, but I didn't get the dialog option to give James one. No worries... he has one now.

Thanks for checking it out for me, I'm sorry about the false alarm.

This is awesome :D

You should make an addon for this to give gifts to your companions like mentioned above.

Cigs for Jericho!
Booze for Butch!
Books for Fawkes!

Okay really I just want to give everyone presents :(

Gifts4Everyone? Sounds like a pretty good idea. I might have a look at it at some point but right now the big update to the Oblivion mod Kragenir's Death Quest has top priority.

I posted a small update, V1.11, which removes the gifts topic from the children in Tranquility Lane. :)
