Pick Pocket

You can do it to your companions as well as long as you don't Pick Pocket their Bracers they won't go back to there default equipment.

Did that but she will only equip the weapons I gave her.

Try improving the armor.

Who are you trying to equip? You'll have a hard time getting a companion to wear light armor if they default to heavy. With Aela I can get her to wear any light armor as long as I improve it on the work bench and toss and enchantment on it.

Actually you can get anyone to wear anything you just have to Pickpocket there default equipment as long as you leave there default bracers for some reason there default armor won't respon.
