Give me locked gear instead of scaled armor

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 1:57 pm

The first thing I did once I was set free was join the thieves guild. It levels my guy's playing style the best and it was one of my most enjoyable times I had in Oblivion.

Earlier today, I find out that the best light armor gear and bow comes by joining this guild. Although, you have to complete it at a later level (say, when you're like lvl 45) for the gear to have its highest stats as the rewards are scaled.

REALLY? I got crap gear that will be obsolete soon because I went this route first? This makes NO sense. Why am I punished for going a certain route when I'm a low level?

I think it would be so much better if the gear was locked until I got to a certain level with light armor / archery. I would rather hold on to this gear knowing that one day I could finally wear it -- something to look forward to.

Now all I got is crappy gear for completing a long chain quest. This totally blows.

Scaling has its perks but it def has its faults. Really unfortunate.

Yep, that svcks big time and I don't see any reason why they should've done this. Still they did. I read about that yesterday and made a fullstop for my thieves guild quests...that is SO damn idiotic it goes beyond all understanding...

Spoiler
If you didn't actually become the leader of the guild yet then you didn't mess up yet.

Indeed scaling does have it's faults, most of which are in Skyrim.

Once Beth actually releases the Creation Kit, I doubt it'll be very long before we get a mod that levels such items with the player. Or just always releases the best version.

Why not just take the armour asap, and then use the console to spawn the armour again when you reach high level? That way you'll get the scaled up version. Tbh if I decide to pursue a career in the thieves guild I may well do this. I won't wait until I'm a high level just for the sake of a stupid scaling system.

The thing that made me mad was when I was exploring a random cave and I found dragon scale armor. I was still wearing leather. I had not found even glass armor up to that point in any chests.

I think its fine, honestly would it be fun to finish the quest line at level 10 and get the level 45 gear?

If you dont want leveled gear, the quests need to be set at the quest rewards level, meaning you wouldnt be able to do it until level 45.

Remenber that Knights of the Nine armor from oblivion, get it as soon as you started the game, and you never had to worry about armor again.

I agree, they should have at least made the items scale with your level. I really really hated this in oblivion. Made me feel like i accomplished less than what i could have done.

Levelling such item with player does fix the problem, but solution is not much better then auto-scaling. What OP really wants is to have epic reward worth his time investment and not some mediocre item. Many players love the idea of exploring new places and finding new, epic gear for their characters. Auto-scaling takes away the reward and breaks the feeling of accomplishment.

the obvious solution is "you must be *insert level here* to wear this item." like DA:O where you have to have X in a certian skill to equip items. EASY.

Although he could craft some similar armor statwise, the looks of the thieves guild armor is unique as far as I am aware.

For a sneaky char, whether it be melee or ranged (I was ranged, but with 100 sneak cut throats now), I dont think armour rating actually matters too much, and in the situations where you are forced into combat, companions should tank it for you.

This. Except non-sneak included. Once I got past 800 armor rating I gave up trying to get the latest and greatest. I just went with what looked nifty to me and enchanted it (dwarven).

The solution isn't locked gear. That would be asinine from an RP standpoint (I can't wear this armor because...?). Just auto-scale it as we level. No doubt there will be mods.

What about gear that levels up with you ( To a point obvs) , so leather would level up to (I duno) level 5, orc but to level 20? , but the thieves guild armour will get better as you get better up to level 45.
Would that work for you guys?

what are the console commands for the nightingale armor? i have the same problem as op.

Also the dark brotherhoods gear looks ugly compared to the 2 sets you get doing the thieves guild quests.

what a dumb idea.

you can carry gear and ammunition for a whole platoon in your magical inventory but you can't equip a simple weapon/armor because >insert stupid reason

one good thing about this is - it still allows you to find cool geat which is better...the problem i have, if i find the uber-gear allready early in game, i have hardly any reason to explore....

What is stupid about it? It has been the standard for 40 years of RPGs. It's about balancing your gear to your level so that fighting a level 10 enemy is actually a challenge at level 10 because you're still wearing Iron gear and not something trivial because you're wearing Dragon Armour with two top-level enchantments.

well then play by your ancient rules if you have fun and want to handicap yourself

thank god bethesda is not going the cheap way of gating gear to level

Thanks for the heads up. Though is the gear unique? As in its enchantments cannot be duplicated?

I agree that making the armor level as you level would have been nice.
