Give the Orcs Japanese Accents!

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:59 pm

I think despite the samurai gear the orcs have had in recent TES games, to me orcs always had a more mongolian slant. At least in some artwork I've seen. But that may not even apply in TES. I think they do suffer from a lack of culture though and could certainly use an extensive culture built up around them. Language too. But maybe that's a bit far. It took them a lot to come up with the dragon language.

That would be so hilarious! Japanese people generically tend to be very slim and not very tall, and with a soft voice, and they're so polite. So basically it's the exact opposite of orcs. XD No way, giving Japanese accents to orcs would have an humoristical effect.

Seeing as the Ocs culture and weapons armours and honour is Based on the Japanese Samurai's i thinkt the orcs should be given a deep japanese accent for skyrim1

Hmm, chances of this sounding horribly racist and absolutely ridiculous are so high I'm just going to say no right now.

TES was already "racist" in the same moment they added the "Beg for mercy, SNOWMAN!" line :D

That would mkake them fantasy versions of the Tau. And granted I love me some Tau, such an accent does not fit the fact that they are ORCS!

I think what the OP had in mind was more of the gruff samurai type in some of the Kurosawa films (forget which ones), but still it seems the wrong way to go for an orc; what with the whole berserk thing and whatnot.

Ooookay...

Then what accent do the Tsaesci get to have?

I mean, they invented the katana...

I always thought that the samurai armour are from the Tsaesci as well.

Wai wuudo dei havu e jyepanisu akkutsuento? Dei aa Eruvesu, afuteru arru.

(... what "Why would they have a Japanese accent? They are Elves, after all." would roughly look like with Japanese phoneme set - it would make them simply hard to understand, for the most part ...)

i think people are idiots for saying "we cant base this game off of asia cause thats a real place" yet like "this game should be a rippoff of scandinavia "

also- there isnt one japanese voice, there are several. while some would never come out of an orc, others would fit REALY well. so i voted yes. people are getting the wrong type of orc too. tes orcs arent tolkien or wow orcs, they are ELDER SCROLLS ORCS- who have NEVER been fleshed out on enough for a definitive culture . orcish armour is samurai/ mongolian, and i have this feeling that orc nobles are like samurai, orc warriors are like mongols and chinese warriors, and there is some kind of plant that is grown like rice (that is not rice) that the peasants work for in the mountains, and that orcish architecture is a hybrid of Mongol and dunmer.

They are elves, and from my experiences with Oblivion the elves have English accents. Their are style is influenced by eastern Asia, but not the voices from what I recall. Perhaps earlier games gave them Asian accents? If so then I could see them returning to that, but if not I do not see them transitioning toward it either.

You have not thought this through. Here's why.

If the Nords sounded scandinavian you would have two possible outcomes:

1. They speak english but in a heavy scandinavian accent. That would sound absolutely awful, it would be ridiculed by every scandinavian player I can assure you fo that, Norwegian people speaking bad english sounds beyond ridiculous, trust me.
2. They would speak Norwegian, Swedish or Danish (Altthough Norwegian would be most likely I think and also fit best, call me biased, that's my opinion.) and thus either the subtitles wouldn't match or the vast majority of players wouldn't have a damn clue what was being said.

Either option is bad. Nords are based on Scandinavian culture yes, but they are not Norwegian, not Swedish and not Danish. They are Nords.

The same applies to Orcs.

Imperials by the way are heavily based on Roman culture, would you prefer that they all speak italian?

I agree with everything, apart from that whole "Norwegian would fit best"-thingie. As a Swede I would probably just end up laughing every time a Nord opened his/her mouth to speak, considering that Norwegian sounds like a jolly and more childish version of Swedish ;) I am, however, also very biased :whistling:

Oh! And to answer the OP - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
