Give users control to turn off mature content

Well if we make a big list of toggable content then it could be fustrating to turn them all. Still it could get beth to not attempt to cater with 5 year olds..

Art is not made by catering to the lowest common denominator.

uh its rated M for a reason, if you don't want them to play a game with content like this then don't. No one is forcing you to make your children play this game.

If they shouldn't see blood, they should play a game that has killing in it.

If they shouldn't see killing, they shouldn't play any T+ video games.

If they shouldn't hear mature language..well they're growing up in a bad time; kids are cursing when they come out of the womb now.

- - Oh yea, like everyone else said..Don't buy a game for your kid if you don't know what's in it, or that's rated M. There's a reason it's rated M.

I don't understand why people are so butthurt about having an option that, if toggled on, prevents the display of blood decals. Some people just don't want to see that kind of thing (but do enjoy the roleplaying aspect of TES), or maybe their computers run the game better without decals being created, or maybe they're doctors and they're sick of seeing blood all day, or any number of rationales that are perfectly fine and reasonable.

You brats insist that the merging of cuirasses and greaves removes choice, or that the breaking up of Mysticism removes choice, or the combining of attributes removes choice — and yet you won't allow someone to have the choice of toggling blood on or off.

To the OP:
I respect the way you're raising your kids. I'm probably the minority on here, but I think good parents really ought to regulate the kind of media their kids are getting into. So keep up the good work, and stay involved. I wish I'd have had parents like you when I was growing up, truly and honestly.

That said, what you're asking for isn't feasible. TES is a game series that, if nothing else, provides a TON of content. So in order to cater to your request, Bethesda would at LEAST have to re-write and re-record a huge amount of dialogue, and that just ain't economical, ya hear? Furthermore, the TES universe is simply pretty mature. You've got the Khajiit, who are basically an entire race of cat-junkies; you've got the Dark Brotherhood who, depending on which game you play, are either a group of professional assassins, or a cult who commit murder as a form of worship. And if the new book, The Infernal City, is any indication, we may be dealing with some sixual themes as well.

So yeah, If I was you, I wouldn't let my kids play it. But to be honest, I don't think kids need to be playing 300-hour rpg's anyway. How could that possibly be good for the development of a young mind?

Nothing is "good for the development of a young mind" anymore.. Even becoming very religious is just going to make the kid hate or be prejudice to other things, or just become a zombie to a cult..

When I was growing up I only saw behavioral problems in children who came from dysfunctional families. The media kids were exposed to did not really matter so much as the environment they were in while exposed to it.

Well yeah, I was speaking from my own personal opinion/bias there.
It's funny you used that example. I happen to be one of those very religious people that folks accuse of being hateful or in a cult.

But to clear up my opinion, I think that the one thing that is REALLY important to the development of a young mind is for them to have lots of social interaction. I don't really care if my kids grow up dumb or uncreative. I care that they grow into happy successful people. In our world, both of those things are most easily achieved by caring about, being sensitive to, and effectively communicating with others. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim probably will not provide training in that category.

Science has proven that CoD teaches those things to the youngsters.

I say good luck to the people that are actually trying to raise kids to be good, happy people.

I can't begin to think of what kind of things you will have to be put through.

Not sure if that was a joke.
But I don't doubt it. Online games are, after all, very social.

But God, I hate CoD.

Are people still offended by swearing? I can understand being offended by racial slurs and such (I've been on the recieving end of enough of them) but how are words like [censored] or [censored] offensive it's just an expression of rage or a sixual act.

Meh. Nowadays people are just in love with this 'expression' crap. Maybe if we engaged in some good old-fashioned repression, we wouldn't be where we are now.
Seriously though, kids don't need to be taught to express rage, that comes quite naturally. They need to be taught to acknowledge it, see how it will ruin their stinkin lives, and cut it out. I think a good way to do that is to provide consequences for expressing rage. That way they know it's not okay to cuss out their boss, or tail people too closely on the interstate, ya dig?

You shouldn't cut rage out of your life, bottling up emotions never does anygood bottling it up is usually why people are angry drivers in the first place(trust me I know about repression I am English after all). Learning to manage anger is good though. I don't mean people being offended when you call them a [censored] head (obviously you don't insult your boss that's just common sense) I mean people being offended by the actual language if you dig? They're like *gasp* did he say [censored] oh no how morally reprehensable and then act like swearing is leading to the downfall and morabankruptcy of our society. Anyway everyone knows swear words are the coolest even Stephen fry loves them

In my country we have a saying that goes:
Boy, you must have long toes.

(Long toes are easily stepped upon, meaning it is easy to offend those that wish to be offended.)
