Giving NEGATIVE XP to a player

I'm making some changes to a mod and needed to penalize the player for a certain action and decided to try NEGATIVE XP, that is player loses XP rather than gains it.

ie: rewardXP -250

While the game delivers -XP and gives no sound cue or the amount taken, there seem to be no other side effects except the XP are indeed removed from the player.

Is there any odd consequences anyone knows of? I tried as an experiment -30,000 which sets a level 20+ character back some -4000 XP in the hole, but the Character level stays the same (he does not go back to a level 1 or whatever character, just missing all the expereince points earned).

I gather if I leave it that way until the character earns past the -4000 then 30,000 more and the 5,000 needed to get to the next level, there is no other problem?
