Glaciers and Crevasses

I realize it is probably way too late for them to implement something like this, but I thought I'd still throw it out there. I'd love to see traversable glaciers. You could either walk around a glacier, or you could take your chances crossing the glacier. Just like real life, there would be a chance you'd break through a snow bridge and fall to your death in a crevasse. Or, if you survive, you'd have to find your way out through a maze of ice tunnels. They could even take into consideration the amount of stuff you are carrying when you cross the snow bridges. Some bridges could support more weight than others. Of course, there wouldn't be just one safe path across, there would be multiple.

For all the of people that like mazes, it would give you two kinds: one on the surface with no walls and another with walls, inside the glacier.

I fully expect that they have already created some dungeons inside the termini of some of the glaciers, but I figured this would be another cool use for them.

a noble idea, but in the end it sounds like just another reason to be good friends with quicksave/quickload, just like traps.

I like the idea of traversable glaciers and the chance of falling through a snow bridge (maybe based on your encumberance weight?), that would be pretty neat and add some scary moments when you wonder if you will plunge to your death because you are carrying everything but the kitchen freezer..

I don`t like the thought of mazes inside glaciers but thats because I hate mazes totally...ever since I played through the nightmare mazes in Planet of Death on the ZX Spectrum :teehee:

cool idea, perhaps a dungeon made entirely of ice that could provide camoflauge for some enemies and everything reflects like a mirror making the place disorientating... probably just be really irritating ._. kind of like fun houses with mirror mazes >_>

I fully expect them to have some dungeons made entirely of ice. I'm not sure I'd expect them to be like mirrors at a fun house, but I just can't imagine that they decided to put glaciers in the game and no one thought "Hey, let's make a dungeon in the ice."

The first poster brought up a good point though. People would probably just move five feet, save, rinse and repeat . That would totally defeat the thrill of trying to make it across alive.

Which in turns leads to the question, how should game saves be handled. I dont want to derail the topic though. However, while I really like the idea, the old save-as-you-like system just breaks the fun out of that. But yeah it would be really cool and I'd like to see that.

Heh, crevass.

I fully expect at least one ice cave with a white yeti and a corpse frozen to the ceiling by its feet, and a sword sticking out of the snow just out of his reach.

I really like that idea. I would love to go through ice caves, and try to cross glaciers. It would add a nice feel to things, and ice mazes and caves would provide a great environment for the ice vampires and frost wraiths and what not.

Having the chance of the snow floor or bridge dropping out from under you would add a more suspenseful feel to dungeons as well and that would be awesome.

I think glaciers, dense forests*, and mountain passes should have their own cells like a dungeon or city. You could enter and exit only at certain points, and could literally spend days (of game time) exploring them. It would do a lot to break up the game world and make things feel more detailed and regionalized.

*Think of Mirkwood from the Hobbit.

If you would fall to your death, yes - and that would not be a good thing as it is a too easy death.
But if you fell into a maze/dungeon in the Glacier, that would be awesome! :)

That would be the best Easter Egg, ever! Star Wars ftw!

But OT: Youve got a good idea there, mate. I wouldn't like the thought of dying from a drop like that, but I would expect a large portion of my health to be taken. Top that off with being stuck in an ice dungeon with monsters lurking about the tunnels, you would be hard pressed to find your way out alive. And I like a good challenge, so I'm down for that.

The only technical issue I see with this idea is how interiors are seperate cells than the exterior gameworld. But a good work around would be having a load screen that just faded to black as you fell into the crevass, and then BOOM! You land on your ass with health damage in an ince dungeon at the base of the glacier...
