I'm glad that Power Armour finally looks like Power Armour

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:52 am

One thing that I absolutely loathed about FO3 and FONV is that the Power Armour looked like cheap halloween costumes.

They just looked fake, scaled to the human models, and the Pip Boy hanging off the arm looked absolutely ridiculous.

Thumbs up for something I may actually feel like using now.

Yeah, I'm totally digging the size and power armor HUD. They look seriously impressive.

I'll be grumpy if they retcon T-51b armor to require refueling, though.

Oh man, right? Actually feeling like you're in some solid techno death-dealing justice-wielding armor.

I am hoping that some of the more advanced PA dont need fuel but instead maybe have a expensive repairs to offset constant use.

Seems like you can mix and match parts.

So I think it'd be interesting if one of those parts was the power source. So maybe early on you have to use power cells, but later you can find a T-51b reactor or better that lasts you for the whole game.

But did they make it only for certain sequences/quests or can you just wear it and go everywhere?

It really gives the feel of, what is essentially, stepping into a robot.

It's something you don't see being carried around in your inventory, as a complete unit. The individual exoskeleton body sections and armor sections I can see you packing a few pieces. Maybe several trips to move it all.

Perhaps even something like tesla armor with the bonus of doing DoT on close enemies :)

Microfusion cells are not exactly rare at the time you tend to use power armor, they should also last for some time, however an larger fuel source might make sense if you use it to move in.

I really doubt they'd put such heavy customisation into something you can only use for set pieces, that'd also go against Bethesda's design philosophy.

Two other options, you can wear it or it can follow you its an robot after all, one option I have thought about is that it might work a bit like horses in Skyrim, you activate it and step into it, getting the power armor interface, you dismount then down and can just jump in again. In this case having it following you makes sense.

Last you could use the vertibird to transport it, both looks like high level stuff. you have to be pretty high up in the faction to get to call airlift then you want.

To me it's more for immersion than anything, nothing says atomic future like strapping a nuclear reactor to your back.

Plus we can also craft the Enclave MKII armor, can't wait to craft that.

True as long as it don't work like Fallout 3 cars.

Secondary bring back the cars, I missed them a lot in New Vegas, random scene raiders take cover behind cars with an predictable result :)

I don't think I'd mind having to put it on and take it off in a garage, but we better be able to wear it around all the time. If Bethesda wants some kind of limited-use mech, they need to build a new mech. I will be super not okay with a power armor retcon that makes it a slow, short-term-use hunk of junk. But I do very much like the new look.

i really dont understand how the player takes the armour with him. if you are right and the armour actually follows the player, i wont quite like it. i always played falout without companions, and i dont anything to join me out in the wasteland, it gives me a great sense of loneliness with which i get really immersed in fo4. And if the armour is as stupid as all horses are in rpgs i will freak out lol

I imagine you'll have two options... break it down and transport it in pieces or get in and go.

Real question is does it act like real power armor?

Hopefully. The T-51b's power source is meant to last ten thousand years.

I thought both were suppose to last like a thousand years since they use a fusion power-pack in them.

I assumed that the player would "transport" the armor by vertibird. We see the vault Dweller calling one, maybe it can also drop off the armor?

I doubt you bring it with you or that it walks behind you like a companion. I think you get transported there by Vertibird, and just jump off it and go to town.

I'm pretty sure the T-45 power armor had a different powerplant that was much less efficient than the T-51's.

I'm glad that Power Armor seems to be Power Armor once again, as opposed to simply heavy armor.

Looking forward to seeing how my favorite armor (The T-45d) looks in this new incarnation.
