No glass or goat horns?...

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 2:19 pm

Hey, I'm sure this has already been discussed but, I couldn't find the thread so... I have waited over a month in game and not a single merchant in any town has restocked glass or goat horns. Is there something I am doing wrong? Is this a glitch? Is there a work around? Any help would be appreciated.

no im having the same problem with horns, only general traders carry them but all the traders in the land only carried 5 horns each for me and havent restocked yet. also ive hunted many goats and none have horns either

i resorted to dropping torches in kettles for lighting, especially in my basemants

It is possible to obtain both glass and goat horns as random loot. I found ten glass and five goat horns in the same drawer, but they do seem quite rare.

None of my merchants have restocked these items either.

They will restock glass and straw, some will eventually get more goat horns but it is rare, if you just wait and do nothing else, it is probably never going to happen. You are better of going and getting your own goat horns, a bit of hunting is not going to take up that much time.

Well, you could just use a steward to furnish your house. Or, like someone has mentioned, you can find them in houses (check drawers, chests, etc).

I have never found any goat horns in any of those houses we build. it would be faster to go hunting that hunting through every house in Skyrim.

Well I spent around two hours hunting goats today and only came out of it with ten horns. Not sure why but not every goat has horns you can loot after they're dead. I mean, you'd think making it easy to light your house properly would be one of those foundation elements that would pose no issue. Too much to ask I suppose. Oh well, I guess dropped torches and mage light spells it is.

I've had no problem with finding goat horns, glass, and straw being sold by merchants. Right now I have 16 goat horns that I have not used yet that I purchased from merchants. They are already selling more goat horns that I haven't purchased yet.

Are some people getting bugged merchants?

Strange, I have no problem finding glass, straw and goat horns. The general goods merchants always have it in stock and in good amounts.

I assure you, I'm not a simpleton. I have went to EVERY city that has a general goods merchant, and I have checked with every traveling merchant... Multiple times. I have waited for days for stocks to be resupplied and still have gotten no luck. I mean, that's awesome that you guys aren't having any problems. It's strange but, for some reason I am.

Be thankful, they made it a lot easier to get antlers than it used to be, the alchemists will know how scarce they were to get when hunting. I never expected to get goat horns of every goat after that experience, would make it too easy. The success rate is still pretty good, so every goat my characters find in the wilds these days dies. Currently I am experimenting with letting the stewards do some of the furnishing to cut down on goat mortalities, but having built the houses twice my two characters ran out of goat horns furnishing the third and had to get their own. The current one has been exploring a bit so already has some of his own as well as buying from the shops. On your first round of the merchants you should get enough to do at least one house, by the time you get that built, stocked and staffed the shops should be ready with more supplies. You are not going to get enough goat horns to do three houses just doing one round of the merchants.

Yeah, well... y'know... that's just, like... your opinion, https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQPvuzuThHBZU-mS4fwHaKaoV1f-gsNfn4oSR9rzc3A10NLbkVvOQ.

Considering that Skyrim (and all TES games back to Morrowind, for that matter) has a pretty good track record of giving players bug experiences that are not common to all the copies of the game, as well as some cases that are apparently unique, it is understandable that some people may have a problem that others do not.

That said, instead of talking down to people you should perhaps consider yourself lucky that you are not experiencing the same problem.

On a more thread-related note, I've yet to run into any restocking issues but am disconcerted with the number of goats horns typically available with vendors. Is five the standard amount? Is that enough, restocking issues notwithstanding?

5 is around the usual number, 13 odd if it is your lucky day, I do not think I have ever got more than 13 from a single merchant.

Okay. I hope mine restock regularly. I plan on building everything 'by hand', specifically because of the regularity of bugs involving stewards not building things they're supposed to and because my imperial is rather hands-on like that.

Off topic a bit, but why exactly is the basemant so dark? We have horns a plenty and a huge fire pit, yet there's pitch black dark spots all over the place!

The lamp neat the workbench never lights up, for two houses the drum on the opposite side is usually missing its light, and some of the candles and lights just plain do nothing. Mind you one cellar I wanted a bit dark (the half where the smelter usually is) and had to give up, I will settle for the one dark corner.
