A Glitch Bethesda Won't Fix (Dremora Summoning)

We need help!

There are quite a few people including myself who have suffered from this glitch, as it has to do with Bethesda's scripting error in the game and is yet to be patched to this day.

What it is:

When a player has reached level 90 conjuration, he/she can complete a quest in the College of Magic that involves retrieving a sigil stone to professor Phinis Gestor. To do this you must go to the balcony of the college and use the spell he gave you to summon an unbound Dremora. In my case, after summoning it, a dragon spawned nearby. Whilst I did not skip lines of speech before commencing in battle or anything like that, I was able to kill the Dremora and it turned into a purple orb in its descent to another realm, the only difference was that a dragon was around and must have messed something up. After killing the dragon, I was no longer able to summon the Dremora and I, along with many others, have no save files dating back to before the conjuring as a backup. I understand that we may be "paying the price" for only using quick saves to back up our data but I noticed that this bug is a re-occurring issue that is ruining the game for many, which Bethesda is yet to fix in an upcoming update.

What we need from you:

The only thing that we need from you (the community) is your help towards finding a solution for this common yet unfixed problem for all players using consoles. I do know that it is a simple solution for PC users since you can go into your files and type in console commands, that players such as myself do not have access to. Being on an Xbox one, I do not know of a way to solve this issue without using old save files that date back to MUCH lower levels.

TLDR: Us console users need another solution to this burdening problem. All help will be highly appreciated and if you require any other additional information from someone like myself, feel free to ask your questions in the comments. Thank you :)

save your game before trying it. If it goes bad, re-load the save and either kill the dragon first, or do something somewhere else so it doesnt spawn.

I feel for such well-manered people with seemingly unsolvable problems. Sorry buddy, can′t help you.

It′s absolutely not "your fault for not keeping more recent saves", we can never predict when the game is going to bug. You could keep more saves and have a pleasant surprise now, but that shouldn′t be strictly necessary.

Unfortunately, it is a huge game to code.

You should have an autosave before you conjure it because you have to go through a loading screen to get to that place. Just load that save (as you exit the Arcaneum), kill the dragon and then proceed with the experiment.

I only keep one hard save per character and use 3 autosave slots. In case my game crash (usually after 2-3 hours), i load the last autosave. Sometimes the game crashes during a loading screen, or i get an infinite loading screen. In that case, the last autosave is corrupted, but i still have 2 working autosaves.

This is not just a problem with this particular instance,.. at anytime if one "event" occur's over another, one of the two sometimes end's up glitched. This is why save's are very important.

I had a dragon attack as Meridia was telling my character about the going to get the orb... revert to a save leaving Solitude.. got to the Statue again...saved right there...and 4 tries later a dragon didn't attack and Meridia finished her spiel...

What I am saying is that its a product of the random encounter/ spawn timer. Revert to a previous save... and when you get to the same point.. save.. kill the dragon 1st then summon the Dremora. If you know it's going to happen, it's easy to circumvent.

Thanks for the tips, but the problem is that I don't have any saves to go back to. I have three auto saves of me trying to kill the dragon and the only save I have before summoning the Dremora which is one of myself 12 levels ago and I have completed so many major quests and storylines since then. I had only noticed that the spell wasn't working till after I spent 15 minutes trying to kill the dragon. I think I'm probably screwed and have to spend another 5 or 6 hours re-doing those quests just so I can get back to the conjuration, I was just trying to find a way to fix this issue or go back without relying on the unfortunate saves that I have. Then again, thank you for all the advice, I didn't expect so many positive responses so soon!

That's a bummer...

I did look up some issues with this, but having done the quest...multiple times, I myself never ran into the glitch.... Most of the glitches seemed to be caused by one of two things... Not letting the Dremora finish his spiel or like you a Dragon interrupting the script. Either way the only "fix" seem's to be reverting to a previous save.

I don't know that the scenario can be "fixed" as it's caused by the Dragon's spawn timer.... and even if it can, they are not going to, it's unfortunate, but 5 yr's later, it just isn't going to happen.
