[REQ] Global Criticals

Post » Mon Apr 11, 2011 7:59 pm

Discussing Adonnay's weapons in another thread made me remember a feature I've always wanted, namely the chance of getting critical hits when using weapons. It's strangely satisfying when it happens with Adonnay's swords. I wonder if it would be possible to have an OBSE plugin doing this globally, so it affects all weapons/arrows? Preferably with an ini so you can set the chance of it happening as well as the amount of extra damage.

Seems doable, although it may also be doable in scripts with OnHit event handlers and the AttackBonus stat.

Thanks! Are we talking a simple enough job if knowing what you're doing or would it take a lot of work?

Depends on how complicated you want to make it. A random critical hit chance, based on existing attributes like luck, weapon skill, fatigue, etc. that multiplies regular weapon damage - pretty easy. If you want it more polished - play a special hit shader or sound effect on the target - that's slightly harder. If you want something like a dedicated "CriticalHitChance" stat, then that's harder yet. Overall, I'd estimate about a weeks work from start to release for an experienced plugin maker.

I'd be happy with the "pretty easy" variant - but I guess it depends on someone who could actually make it being interested by the idea as well.
