Globally: PC Games sell better.

Post » Sat Aug 23, 2014 3:29 pm

From http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2014/04/28/as-global-pc-game-revenue-surpasses-consoles-how-long-should-console-makers-keep-fighting/:

"We’ve established repeatedly that PC gaming isn’t remotely close to being dead or dying, so perhaps it’s time to redirect that argument to consoles? DFC Intelligence owner David Cole tells PCR that revenue from PC gaming has surpassed that of consoles on a global scale. But beyond the claim, there is some fascinating peripheral data showing that PC gaming’s dominance will only continue. Should this be the last generation of proprietary Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony platforms?"

This just in: PC actually is the master race and it isn't just people being arrogant or picking a team, but rather a PC is capable of doing anything a major console can do and more.

More at 11'.

Or multiple platforms can all sell a decent amount & all be viable & profitable, while not all being equal.

But that doesn't sell magazines/newspapers/etc like sensationalistic statements do.

The only thing consoles have going for them is their slightly cheaper price, though considering that the prices were 5-600 dollars a piece I just don't see the attraction of a console anymore. It used to be that consoles were for playing with friends. Splitscreen co-op and what not. But with everything being online, a 5-600 dollar computer will get you the same as a console with the added benefit of everything else a computer can do and you can keep it going for just as long as consoles if not longer (with a little sacrifice in the graphics area if you hold on too long). You don't even have to give up your controllers if you don't want to. Go ahead and plug them into your computer. The only reason we won't see them sink is that microsoft and sony will likely add gimmick after gimmick and make games work only on their consoles. Even that won't last them forever though. With kickstarter and the like they won't be able to keep a stranglehold on the business anymore and will eventually crash and burn unless they adapt. But not anytime soon likely. They're too big to just fail right now, we're too used to them. It'll take a while for kickstarter to truly gain momentum and have big name companies going directly to us for the things we want instead of through them. IMO this won't be the last console generation or even the parent to the last. We'll probably see at least two more generations unless something happens.

*Waits for the obligatory "Console games outsell PC games.. maaah" argument (with dodgy statistical data) from butthurt console users.*

Yeah, no platform wars, thanks.

Taking all console people over a comb and call them butthurt isn't particulary mature or nice.
