'No Glow' Enchanted Items

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 4:08 am

I can deal with the glow if its done well, which it hasn't been.

Adding periodic effects, or effects on strike (like a sword sparking on fire when it hits the target) would work well.
But I wouldn't mind the glow if its just that, a glow, not a shiny wrap that just looks terrible...
Morrowinds armor? Terrible! I loved Morrowind, but I couldn't enchant armor, it was too bad...

Yah, I think if nothing else a *glow would be cool not a wrapped texture.

Oh, right on about Morrowind, couldn't do it... haha. Always go regular armor or clothes. :D

Staves never had a glow.

Well Oblivion staffs need some improvement to look truly magical most of them have look of an wooden stick, even some Artifact staffs have dull design

The glow needs to go, something far cooler is in order. Also, thx to whoever it was that posted that quote from Official Playstation Magazine. Not knowing what enchantment is on an item is more realistic, and I would assume that implies it won't glow a certain color for a certain enchantment either.....otherwise you would know what it does. So I'm pretty sure this poll/discussion is moot since that quote changes what we know about enchanted items in Skyrim.

BTW, the stupid purple glow on an otherwise jet-black sword made Umbra look like a sword fit more for a fanny bandit than the Champion of Cyrodiil.

Is the saran-wrap kinda dorky? Yes.

But it's also ridiculously easy to remove via a simple scripting mod.

So I say leave it in, for those like me who find it strangely appropriate, and whoever tires of it can install a tiny little esp (like I eventually would).

It would be far easier to remove it via modding than to add it back in via modding.

No glow or visual effect maybe other than hit. If you want to see glow, then have a "Detect Magic" spell that makes it show up with a glow. Range of effect = dependent on skill.

It always felt like an additional layer on the items themselves, when I think the magical "glow" of power should come from the very core of the items, somehow feel like they have an inner fire. My hopes are high on this one, especially now that enchtning is a skill.

I don't exactly want to remove it and leave the items entirely plain, I just think there are better alternatives like ruinic markings, glowing when being used, etc.

I don't know if this has been suggested or not (probably has), but why not just make the weapon briefly glow each time you unsheath it, and again when you strike at an enemy. Maybe you could have the occasional flare up while you hold it, where it glows for a second before going back to normal.
