Glow map tutorials

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:27 pm

I have just decided to dive into the world of texturing. I am first going to try retexture the sap found at the end of the Fighter's Guild storyline (changing it from yellow to a bright red). There is only one problem that I have run in to so far and that is that I can't find any suitable glow map tutorials.

Does anyone know of a good tutorial for creating glow maps? The only one I have found so far is http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=128. This tutorial doesn't go into much detail though. It also asks you to modify a mesh to point to the new map (doesn't Oblivion already apply glow maps if it has the same name as the colour map with _g at the end). And last, the tutorial is for creating a glow map in Photoshop (I'm using Paint.net and GIMP). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I know of a pretty good one... doesn't detail using _g (which ismy prefered method and works the same way as _n for normal maps)... http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/topic/1810-guest-workshop-unmasking-glow-maps-by-darkrider/... also other good texturing tuts there for other things you may want a bit more info on.

Thank you for the help Pacific Morrowind. That tutorial was exactly what I was looking for. I already had a good tutorial for the normal map and changing the colour map was simply a matter of adjusting some colour sliders (since yellow is a component colour od red, that made it even easier).

Anyway, here is a picture of my work:
