Glowing snowflakes?

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 1:42 pm

I think in one of the scenes shown in the new video, it was a dark evening and it's snowing, the snow flakes in the air are big glowing balls? I remember it's also the same way in Oblivion. Maybe it's just dev's artistic exaggeration, but I would love to see more realistic snow effects, not just accumulation but how it looks in the air. how do you feel about this type of snow?

example of glowing snow in skyrim:

Meh, if it glows it glows, I never really noticed the 'glow' you mentioned in Oblivion though. However i'm sure whatever it is it will be good (Talking about Skyrims snow)

if that is the HDR then you will be able to toggle it and snow is white so it reflects a lot so it does appear like it is glowing

I have NEVER seen snow flakes glowing ever so slightly in real life. I know a game is not real life, but if the snow doesn't bother me then it can glow all it wants. but every time it snows in oblivion I can't keep from thinking about how much it glows and how HUGE they look.

Embrace artistic design, my children! EMBRACE IT!

In other words: Stop whining about every single "unrealistic" aspect of Skyrim's graphics and instead try to accept them for not trying to copy reality. If you want realistic snow or landscapes or just graphics in general, just open the door and go outside. Seriously.

again like I said, I don't care if it's that realistic but the glowing actually bothers me, as in makes me unwilling to see a snowy weather.

Come on man. Maybe it's because I'm sick of seeing those small white pieces of crap slowly falling from the sky, laying themselves in thick, cold layers that then has to be dealt with, but I'm not even bothered by the snow effects in this game. And I've seen enough snow to last me two lifes over. And I haven't even lived that long.

Seriously, I need some frikkin sun now, before my brains start rotting or something.

I've never been in the snow much, so I don't really know what it's meant to look like, but Skyrim's looks okay. There was a mod for Bloodmoon that made real-looking snowflakes, it looked okay from the screenshots too. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what it is like (someone is bound to make a mod).

Have you ever been outside on a sunny day in winter? (assuming you have snow where you live) Everything looks pretty much like having 100% of vampirism and walking during a day in oblivion.

Me either. I am constantly wondering "wtf do they mean Glow?" while in this forum but never really bothered to ask.

Bloom is the glitter of the videogame world. Use it on everything and it looks so very very terrible. Bloom should be for lights, the sun, and shiny polished objects. Not sheep, stone, and snow. HDR effects go hand in hand with this, although they're usually much better than the bloom alternative.

i highly doubt they would be stupid enough to make the snow glow on purpose.
